Hello
Recently my doctor informed me that my fasting blood sugar was slightly high (123 & 127 on another occasion). She wanted to start me on insulin tabs. I refused and said I could bust this with exercise and diet and am determined, but also have to learn some stuff. I would appreciate any help or ideas, I really want to turn this around. My H1BAC (did I get that right?) was 6.1 and the doctor said under 6.4 was ok. My daughter has hyper-insulinism, so I do have some knowledge of sugar levels.
I have just had lunch which was 2 slices of wholegrain bread, one slice of cheese and a little pickle with some salad. After my BS was 168. I was like, WOW. that is terrible. On fasting today it was 110 and after breakfast (oatmeal) it was 134, not bad I thought.
I would love to hear what kind of food you would recommend. I like eating lentils & beans, grilled chicken and veg. I hate fried foods, and I am sure you are all wondering how I ended up like this? Chocolate and sweets and ice cream. My sweet tooth is unbelievable. I have drowned it now.

Many thanks for reading this. I am looking forward to participating.

Hi ice :)

I'm kinda new to all this too.  My whole story is in a message titled 'For Newbies' (I'll bump it up for you).

The reason for your 168 reading after lunch was most likely the 2 slices of bread.  Read through the old messages on this forum and look for references to the 'Nothing White Except Cauliflower & Cottage Cheese' diet.  Basically, you avoid anything made with grains (cereals, pasta, breads) , starches (potatoes) and sugars.  There are many more examples of what to eat & what not to eat in and around the forum.

Hmmm .. eggs are white & they're OK ... so I guess it is the 'Nothing White Except Cauliflower, Cottage Cheese & Eggs Diet'?

Anyway, read ... ask questions.  This is a nice & helpful place.
