The doctors office just called and the resutls of the 2 hour glucose test and a1c are back.  The 2 hours glucose test was fine.  Fasting was 81 and after 2 hours it was 97.  My a1c was 4.7.

So, I am very confused as to the elevated readings at home and how I feel.  So, now what?  Obviously the doctor says there is no problem.

Any advice?  Or just let it go?

Wow.  I have no idea.  The OGTT is great!  They're looking for under 140 and you came in at 97!  Your A1c is about equal to an average of 81.  Certainly, based on the tolerance test, you don't have any problems metabolizing carbs and therefore would not be diagnosed as diabetic.  I don't know why you have those really high blood sugar readings at home then.  Did you take your meter in with you so you could check how accurate it was?

No, I didn't take my meter.

The other blood work did show anemia. From what I am finding online anemia can cause false readings in the A1C (making it normal than it actually is).

IT has to be the prednisone. i wish I could get off this stuff. Then I'd have better idea of what my body is actually doing.

Body chemistry and how other conditions affect lab work is beyond my understanding.  Maybe another round of tests after treatment for the anemia?

finding the cause of the anemia and treatment is the next plan. I also have ulcerative colitis which can lead to a vitamin b12 deficiency. Until then I have been told to follow the plan as if I have type II diabetes. Watch carbs, sugar and exercise. After we figure out the anemia we will do more testing.
