Hello All:

Does low-carb, low-sugar diet cause weight loss? I cut down my carb intake and limit my desert in the past few weeks. I noticed that I have lost 2 pounds. Is that because of the new diet?

I don't want to dip into underweight since I am already petite.

Thanks!

Yes, it surely does!  If you don't want to lose weight and want to keep normal blood sugar, then eat more food!  If you have really good control of the blood sugar, eat whole grain/whole berry breads with butter, a little bigger serving at your meals.  (I wish I had your problem! tongue )

Not according to the newest research.

I've been eating eggs, steak, butter and I put real cream in my coffee and my own cholesterol has improved.  My triglycerides went from 102 to 70, total cholesterol from 215 to 173 my LDL from 124 to 93.  This is since I started the low carb diet.  Blood cholesterol is manufactured in the liver.  You don't get high cholesterol from the fats you eat.

That is good news. I guess as long as you don't have the weight problem, taking more eggs and meat rather than carbs will cut down the sugar spikes.

thanks Lanie.

If you're interested in reading more about the history of diets, trends and research, read Good Calories, Bad Calories by Gary Taubes.  I found it fascinating.  In any case, I have had only improvements in my cholesterol and I eat all kinds of cheeses, butter, red meat.  A person who changes his/her diet drastically should be sure to follow up with lab tests.

I have been trying to find food with NO Carbs or Low Carbs. I want to loose some weight but keep my blood sugars in check. Can anyone help me?

Hara, you need to read through our past threads about diet because we've discussed the low-carb way of eating many many times.  Even if a food is listed as having "0" carbs, it only means that the carbs are negligible or less than 1.  Most food has some carbs, some more than others.  Just choose what you like to eat.  Read all the posts we've had about food.

Not everyone there is diabetic so read with care.  The main point of the site is weight loss.
