Hi everyone, I was told the other day that I'm Hypoglycemic. Have any of you ever been hypoglycemic before you became a diabetic? I'm not over weight and I do exercise a lot, But have been feeling dizzy, shaky, very very hungry, tingling in my mouth and have even had a few convulsions. My normal Dr. could not find out what was wrong. Just said that it was most likly depression. (YA RIGHT) I finally went to a nutritionist and had some test done. It came back that I definitly had low blood sugar plus several other things . I was just wondering if any had these problems before they became a diabetic. Thanks for your help. UNSURE

Hi Brenda.  I was diagnosed at the age of ten which was a long time ago.  I do remember having one hypoglycemic incident a few months before diagnosis.  At the time I didn't know what it was except that I instinctively reached for food.  But it was too close to supper time and my mother wouldn't let me. She couldn't have known it was a hypo either even if I had told her how I was feeling.

Some people do have hypos before diagnosis.  Were you ever on steroids?  Apparently that can trigger type 2 diabetes.

Thanks, Scrappy for your feed back. I have never been on steroids, but have been told that I most likly have Lupus along with the hypoglycemic. I guess that I'll just try to eat healthier, and exercise more. I have two kids and a husband that loves to eat, so that makes it hard to eat fish, chicken and lots of vegs. Oh well!! Anyone else with any thoughts of being Hypoglycemic? Thanks, again. Unsure

Hey Brenda,
I have lupus, and hypogycemic tendancies as well. Really bad ones. I went to an endochrinologist to find out if I actually was hypoglycemic. They did blood sugar tests while I was in a bad "crash" and both tests came back with my blood sugar as normal. Weird eh! So, the prognosis is: If you have true hypoglycemia then you either have an auto immune disease causing it, or, you have a tumor on your pancrease that is causing too much insulin. My prognosis is this. I have normal blood sugar levels even when I'm "crashing". It turns out that my seizures are causing the low blood sugar "feeling". Temporal lobe seizures can do this. So, get checked for a tumor. Get an ultrasound done. Also, find out if you have lupus. See a Rheumatologist. You can talk with us on the lupus forum if you like too. It will give you more information on lupus.

My son was 2 yrs. old when we found out he was hypoglycemia. He was at school when he had the attack. His eyes rolled back in his head and slip into coma. He was like that for a week. His blood sugar was 6. Has a infant he did have partial seizure. At the age is 12 is when he started with the grand mal seizures. The partial seizures start before anything. Do you think the seizure had anything to do with the blood sugar? We test his blood 3 times a day. He is taking 3 meds for his seizurestrileptal, keprra, and zonegran. His WBC has been real low (2.5). We got to see a hemelogy doctor tomorrow. Hopefully he can shed some light on this.
