I don't know why I titled that way.
My meter (I got True Track meter - sold as Walgreens or Good Neighbor brand).  I ate some bad things (not tooooo bad, but a small amount of fair food last week).  I took my blood sugar expecting it to be in the 200's.  It was 150.  This is good for me right I took it again and it was 180. I took it a third time, 180 again.   All the variables were the same, except for the third I had to re-prick.  How do I know if I can trust this meter?

The best way to check your meter is to take it with you to a doctor's appointment and have them do an accucheck in the office and at the same time from the same prick you take a reading with your meter. They should be within 15-20% of each other.

For example if yours reads 100 the office meter should read no more than 80-120.

But, and I am assuming you took these 3 readings in rapid succession, it is normal to get readings varying 10-20% from reading to reading with the same meter.

You have to remember that the meters are more of a guide than the "Bible" of what your blood sugar is doing. The real test are the lab A1c tests.

maybe the alcohol wipe hadn't quite dried yet when you stuck yourself the first time and diluted the first blood sample a little bit? (we nurses always think of all the reasons we were taught, lol!)
