Hi all, for over a yr I have had burning/stinging "zingers" that jump around from random parts of my foot/hand..sometimes for a second other times hrs. Also at the same time started having random buzzing in one leg and muscle twitching all over. Had many labs etc, all fine. In Feb my pancreas started to hurt, turns out its been inflammed. I have had a few scans so far so good. I have been scared as my dad died on pancreatic cancer. My glucose last tested was fine.

I cannot help but think its all related to my pancreas. I would think a pancreas problem would have same symptoms as one with diabetes.

Had an emg but no nerve damage per the dr at the time, though had it done shortly after nerve pains stareted

A few question-

does neuropathic pain start at beginning or pre diabetes and would neuropathic pain mean damage hence it would show on an emg?

Thanks so much--just very scared I have pancreas cancer..

(jokingly) Personally, I think watching the news every day is going to cause the end of me smilewinkgrin

(seriously) There are no medical folk around here but you will get lots of advice so keep checking back.  According to your signature, your lab test results point towards you being relatively healthy.  I would concentrate on that.

(semi-jokingly/seriously) Try not to spend all of your time looking for explanations for things that go bump in the night  (ie. burning/stinging "zingers", twitching, etc.) or worrying about family medical histories.  I'm a little (lot) older than you and have found that thinking about such things can sometimes cause such things, if you catch my drift smilewinkgrin

For all you know, you might be the one to change history by not following in your family footsteps, yes?

(non-medical advice) Take your cat/budgie/donkey/moray eel out for a walk and steal an apple from somebody's tree and eat it.  Sleep.  Repeat as necessary.  Report back.

As long as you have a good doc keeping track of your pancreas then just carry on, as Chris said. Neuropathy is something that develops over time with diabetes because the small capillaries become clogged with the large sugar molecules and this cuts off the circulation to the nerve cells... except it doesn't cut it off completely. As the nerve cells die a slow and painful death they report this to the brain as agony. Early nerve damage often shows up as an itch under the skin that you can't scratch or insensitivity to hot water or very cold car handles and steering wheels. (You don't feel them as hot or cold until you have done some tissue damage.)

Other symptoms of diabetes show up much earlier than neuropathy and so it is not often used in diagnosis. Good luck with finding the cause of the strange feelings.

Thank you both, and I appreciate the explanation on when neuropathy usually starts with this. Does that mean since it is the nerve being killed it would typically show on an EMG?

I know I should not be so scared, however the fact that my pancreas has been inflammed since Feb (pain, labs are elevated for lipase and ca 19 tumor marker--though know inflammation can cause this to rise) coupled with my dads history--its hard not to be on the ledge with this!  I try to keep my mind off it but its hard when I am in pain in my pancreas area. I hope these other odd things such as the twitching and zingers and of course the pancreas is not related to something like cancer but maybe something autoimmune

Again, thanks so much
