I checked my blood glucose 2 hr after eating lunch, half a tuna sandwich on whole wheat bread, some baked Lays, one Stella Doro cookie and half a dozen sour patch kids.  The reading was 179.  One hour later, the reading was 129!!!  You mean to tell me it could drop 50 points in one hour???  Maybe something is wrong with my Accu-chek monitor?

Diagnosed with ulcerative proctitis in 1998 in hospital
Hospitalized (2nd time) in May 2008 for ten days.
Remission Nov 08 thru May of 09.
Slowly coming out of flare.  Meds: Colazal (6 per day), prednisone 10 mgm and tapering weekly, Cort enema nightly, Canasa in morning, Benicar 20 mg for BP, flaxseed oil 3 x a day, fishoil 2 x a day, probiotic 3 x a day, calcium with D 1x a day and multivitamin.
Doctor had me on 100 mgm of 6MP which drastically lowered my white count.  Now off the 6MP pending results of repeat white count. UGH.

No, really.  It could be accurate, as accurate as these meters are anyway.  They're supposed to test out up to + or - 10 to 20% off accuracy.  In any case, presuming it's accurate, it would mean that you're making insulin and the insulin is taking care of the glucose running around in your system.  So, that's a good thing!  And even if the meter is off (just as they all are), the reading still means the blood sugar came down quickly, and that's great!

I also noticed that you are tapering off on the pred. This may be helping your pancreas do it's job better, too. Just think how awesome the readings would have been if you had had tuna salad on lettuce and greens! Also, real potato chips are actually better for diabetics. The fat delays the absorption of the starches acting like a kind of time release on the blood glucose spike. For us, some fat with our food is good. Glad to see you are having better readings.
