Could someone please tell me the best time to take your blood sugar levels, my husband has type 2, and takes his about 3pm each day but then drinks approx 9 glasses of wine afterwards.

I'm fairly newly on medication. Right now my doc has me taking my BGL when I get up in the morning (fasting) and again two hours after I start eating my evening meal (2 hour postprandial).

My husband has been on medication for several years and is very stable and controlled; he does a fasting sugar each morning.

Lifescar, normally a doctor will instruct the patient to test first thing in the morning (fasting) and then a postprandial (2 hours after the start of a meal), as Judy says.  If he is on meds he needs to know what his blood sugar is at those times and how the food he eats affects him.  Nine glasses of wine?  This sounds very irregular and dangerous.

Thank you so much for your prompt replies they were a great help. Yes, Lanie I do agree with the excessive quantity of wine but he has cut down since being diagnosed. (hopefully he can get down to maybe 3 glasses)j

I think he should have a talk with his doctor (and vice versa) about his eating in general and his wine consumption in particular.  As you know there are other effects he has to be worried about, too.  Good luck with this!.  Would he like to come and be a member of HealingWell?  We'll be nice but honest, honest!  cool

hehehe, thank you for the kind offer BUT! like most men....he thinks he can handle it well himself, although I must say he is now walking regulary for the first time in his life, and eating very sensible. The wine will be a greater challenge but he is certainly trying. ;)

Well, that's some improvement then.  I hope he likes his doctor and they have good talks.  Remember that we're here, too.  smile

He does like his Dr. which can make a big difference. His BGL yesterday morning was 5.3 which I hope is quite good. (I'm not sure what a "normal" reading should be.
It's certainly good to know that I can rely on you guys for any info. :)
