I dearly love ice cream, but have been studiously avoiding it since being diagnose type 2 diabetic last year. I’m pretty much ok with a low carb, low sugar diet; but I really miss my ice cream.

I was at the grocery store last week, and found a brand of ice cream, “Blue Bunny”, that said “no sugar added” on the label. I checked the nutrition info on the label, and found that, while it still had some carbs and sugar listed, a half cup serving was still within the range of acceptable amounts.

So, I picked up a half gallon; it was WONDERFUL!!! and didn’t seem to affect my BGL numbers significantly.

Does anyone have any experience/suggestions regarding “diet” ice cream?

I do eat ice cream. I use Bluebell Lite, which has 15 grams of carb. That's acceptable for a snack occasionally for me.

I've bought Breyer's no-sugar added ice cream and it's good.  I think any of the no-sugar ice creams should be ok as long as we don't eat too much of it.

I'm like you...I have to have ice cream!  I, too, use the no sugar added varieties.  I live in Florida and shop at Publix.  It you happen to live here, they have a no sugar added orange sherbet that is wonderful and also a no sugar added bar that is like Klondike but coated with dark chocolate instead and far better with only 4 grams of sugar in it.  These are Publix brand treats but thought I'd mention it for people that go to Publix.
But, as everyone here has said, these are occasional treats.

Keeping to 1/2 cup is difficult so I actually have to measure it. (I am such a baby!) I make my own at home in a small freezer and use whipping cream or half and half with sugar free jello for flavoring. Works for me!
