Have noticed the last few days my legs/ankles are extremely swollen and painful to the touch...achy like when you have the flu. Although my sugar levels seem to be pretty good each time they are checked 5.7 has been the highest during this??? Any idea what might cause this???

Hi and welcome.  I don't know because swollen ankles and legs might be due to any of several different health issues, not necessarily diabetes.  I suggest seeing your doctor because you might need some tests done.

I had swollen legs for years from a low thyroid, however, please go to your doctor as sometimes it can be more serious.

Medications, dehydration, circulation problems are just a few things that come to mind. I know I need to start drinking more water when I can't fit my normally loose rings on my fingers. We've had extremely hot, humid weather for the second week now and it's definitely having an effect on my legs (feet particularly), too. I've been on thyroid meds for more than 2 decades, also, and I know there can be some effects with that, too. If particularly bad, you might want to just check with your doc, as Lanie suggests.
