Hello All! I had double lumbar fusion on March 3rd of this year.

While I was being prepped for the surgery, blood was of course taken and check for what ever was to be tested for.
The nurse came back to the room and said I was just one click away from having Diabetes. Not sure what they were looking at
to determine this, but it sort of alarmed me.

It might be helpful for you to know that I was taking Percocet, #10 325mg and Oxycontin #30 X2
I am also taking Crestor 40mg and Atenolol 25mg, Asprin 325mg X1, Fish oil, and a host of other vitamins.

There is no known Diabetes in my family. Is it a possibilty that the meds I'm on could influence the reports.

       Thanks!

SE, Google each of your meds and see if raised blood sugar or hyperglycemia are among the side effects for them.  You can also ask your pharmacist.  Several situations can raise blood sugar: food you just ate, stress, illness, being overweight as well as being diabetic or "nearly" diabetic, so it's a little early to worry about this.  I would suggest that when your present surgery is done and you're back on your feet that you see your doctor specifically to follow-up on the nurse's comment.  It might help to get copies of your blood work, too, to show your doctor (and for yourself to keep as a matter of record.)  Good luck.

Thank's! Sounds like a plan! :)  I appreciate your input.

If I had read your first post more carefully, I would have realized you've had your surgery and you're up and around!  Sorry!  blush    In any case, my advice is the same, that you should address this with your doctor or internist, whoever is your main doctor that you're seeing on a regular basis.  It might just be a temporary blip or a wake-up call to you and your doctor to monitor your blood sugar once or twice a year, which is easy to do with blood tests in the office.  Good luck and I hope the surgery was effective.

Thanks Lanie! Yes, I had the surgery, and it was a rough one for me, but I'm happy to say that things are looking up as far as a good recovery.

I will bring it up to my PCD on my next visit.

Screaming Eagle,

Check with your doctor about the Crestor. I had to stop taking it because Crestor raises my blood sugar.
