Well after 17 months I now understand what lannieg was saying when I first inquired about forum members with byetta. I look at the site from time to time, but I find my A1C have really improved and because I am maintaining a good exercise routine and still eating fairly well I am still keeping the weight off. To date I am still only on the 5mcg Byetta pen and I will not change until the LAR formula comes out later this year.
Since I started taking Byetta in March of 2009 my A1Cs have been as follows:
5/18/2009 6.4, 8/13/2009 5.8, 6.0 on 11/18/2009, 6.4 on 1/23/2010, 6.1 on 5/09/2010 and 5.7 on 8/10/2010
Control can be had, but it comes with a price. The most important thing I can suggest to anyone is taking the time to find out what foods effect your blood glucose the most. Once you do that it is really important to watch carbs and choose healthy snacks. Exercise rounds out an amazing transformation, especially if you put in the effort. I just wanted to share my story.

Hi tj, I'm glad you're still doing fine with the byetta.  You are our go-to member for that med, I think.  It's because of your successful management that you haven't had to increase the dosage and it's exactly as you said about what you eat and your exercise or otherwise active lifestyle.  If we had jobs that required physical labor, we wouldn't have to schedule exercise time into our lives.  It's interesting that your A1c in January this year was higher than your other results.  I would think it's because of the holidays.  That's been true for me, but my doctor isn't concerned because she expects it to be higher after Thanksgiving and Christmas than the other two times during the year when the A1c is taken.  Keep on with the good work!

Actually looking at the numbers, I think the January number is actually from February. On December 30th, my job was turned upside down when I was moved from one service area to another that is 50 miles away from my home. It has caused all kinds of problems with my routine and the initial stress is probably the reason for that number. But then again the stress has not changed in the last few months and my diet in the last three months has been terrible compared to any time in the last 17.
