Tpe 2  since 1998...depressed for six months.  My experience is some lows mainly since I have lost my appetite.  Am on glucophage, actos, amaryl and prozac.  Anyone willing to share stories would be welcome

Hi Designs,

Depression is very common among diabetics, in fact anyone with a chronic illness is more prone to depression. You say you've been depressed for 6 months. Is that how long you've been on the prozac? And, is it working?

I was on antidepressants about 5 years ago after my son passed away. I have bad side effects with any of those med's, but was able to last long enough to get over the worst of it. There have been a couple of times when I felt I should go back on but the side effects are just intolerable. Did the 'white knuckle' trick and got through. Wouldn't recommend it to others, it was just what I had to do.

Hey Designz,

HI my name i serena and i know how you feel about being depressed...I dont know if my depression is caused by being a diabetic. My mom told me awhile  back that depression run in our family...I deal with my depression in a kind of a wierd way,but it helps me out...I would rather be here for my friends than worry about myself..When i help people out it makes me feel better...Also another way is that i get depressed alot just sittin at home all the time..I would rather be out working or with my friends..I have found out that i dont get depressed as much when i go out to a bar i go to everyweekend..I feel at home there and people are very nice..I go out to dance it takes my mind off things...but also what helps me is i know i have my friends and family here for me.
