Hi Franny, Are you on medication, are you seeing a diabetes doctor? You said a nutritionist, does she give you meal plans and tell you what to eat and what to avoid? Make sure you are on medication and cut out all sugar, go very easy on white potatoes, white rice, white flour, pasta, avoid these as much as possible, with those numbers you have to see a doc and take medication and it has to be adjusted until you get your numbers down, start taking care of yourself.

Hi Franny
I am pre-diabetes and My Dr recommended The Low GI DIET loose weight with smart carbs by Jennie Brand-Miller & Kaye Foster-Powell.
I am 5 weeks into the program and have lost weight (1/2 stone) though i am doing regular exercise as well.
The local pharmacy gave me a book called Food for every body cooking for diabetes the low-GI way.
Hope these help, but first check them out with your Dr.

eyes  VIEW IMAGE Hi Franny.  I don't know if I have a lot of help.  I have a pretty good diet plan.  I'm type I, but I am on pills and insulin.  Was your A1C 28?
I can give you my dr's diet, and I also can tell you what I just started trying.  See..I crave something chocolate or strawberry sometimes.  So, I've bought some powdered shake mix (not Slim Fast, but a K-mart name brand.)  I bought a Hamilton Beach milkshake mixer for my husband for Christmas.  He loves ice cream.  Especially in the form of a shake.  I  cannot have it, of course.  so I've been drooling ever since Christmas.

But I found this chocolate and vanilla powder shake mix, and I can make myself an ice cold shake.  I'm using my usual breakfast...1 or 2 slices of toast, butter, and a cup of coffee.   Then about 10 a.m. I have a shake with some sliced cucumbers or radishes, or the like...all that I want of them while I'm having my shake.  It fills me.  Then around noon I have another one, with the raw veggies again.  Then I have to make it till supper........sometimes I have a cup-a-soup (chicken noodle) and I drink Crystal Lite drink mix. Then  I have a regular supper of about 700-800 calories.  I hope this might give you an idea or two.

Your A1C was 28???? I did not even think the numbers went that high! It should be under 7... Join the ADA; $35 per year..their monthly magazine is wonderful. Also are you seeing an endocriologist? That is very important. I am type 2 since 1998 now..on three different meds.

First add 30 to 40 % of green to your luch and dinner. It will fill up your stomach and did not increase you BS.

By going through your reading, what is your normal fasting BS level in the scale 80-120 (normal range.)

There is another reason H1Ac may be high but your fasting may be with in the range, the new findings has solutions to it.

Guru,
Want to welcome you to the diabetes forum here on HW... You seem to have the good fighting attitude that
this disease needs to be met with. Glad to meet you.
