Lanie, I wonder if you or someone can answer the following.
Part of the diabetics diet is the cutting down on intake of carbs.
Cuting down on carbs will usually cause constipation and I wonder what you folks are doing to prevent constipation, when cutting down on carbs.
(I guess people cutting down on carbs to reduce weight would also (possibly) have constipation and wonder what they would do to produce good bowel movement?)

make sure you have protein in your diet and fiber. i use myfitnesspal to keep track of what i eat and it helps.
"No one really dies because they have loved. Because they love they stay in the hearts of the people they have touched so in that their memory lives on." Ghost whisperer-i know corny but this touched me deep down and i see so much truth in it.

I don't have that problem. I think it's because of the vegetables I eat. I eat a lot of leafy greens, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach (fresh and cooked), nuts mixed with sunflower kernels. And I do drink about three glasses of water with lime or lemon juice during the day.

Well, besides beans there are: http://www.livestrong.com/article/320693-vegetables-that-cause-gas-bloating/.

It seems the sugars in vegetables and some fruit can cause it. And this goes for milk products because of lactose (a sugar).

When I was on a low carb diet, I took 3 capsules a day of a Fiber Blend which has 11 ingredients such as oat bran fiber, psyllium, carrot, brocolli, prune and others. You'll find it at your local health food store. Be sure to drink lots of water during the day. Take you weight and divide it by 2 for number of ounces of water a day. Ex: if your weight is 140 lbs drink 70 oz water daily. The capsules and sufficient water worked for me.

Do any of you folks drink coffee every day? I believe I read somewhere on this board that some folks drink several cups of coffee each day.
I drink one cup of decaf (with unsweetened soy; and Splenda).
I also take one spoonful of Colon Cleanse with cup of water (for people on low carb diets). That's appears to have helped with my irregularity thus far. (Have cut out diet soda and just drink water now, thanks to Lanie.)
But I might try the "Fiber Blend." Is that the brand name? Does it have any carbs, sugar, etc., in it? Costly?

P.S.Have seen a lot about probiotics on TV. Does anyone take probiotics or have an opinion on it or one brand over another?

Hi Bob.  I drink one cup of coffee a day, sometimes two when it's really cold outside, one cup for breakfast and one mid-afternoon but normally just one cup of coffee.  I think you should continue what you're doing if you're not having any irregularity problems.  As far as probiotics, a cup of yogurt with active cultures is fine.  You don't need some fancy schmancy "probiotic" product.  I eat one little container of sugar-free yogurt a day.  The container says "active cultures" - and maybe all yogurt has them, too, I'm not sure.

Thanks Lanie.
What is the name of the yogurt you buy with no sugar and containing active cultures? I've looked around quite a lot and almost all of them are loaded with sugar and carbs.

I now use the Dannon Light & Fit (Diabetic Friendly, it says). I believe I told you I got up in the middle of the night once and had 3 of them and then took my fasting test a few hours later and it was in mid 80s. It says it has 3g sugar and 3g carb, but no sugar added (86% less sugar, it also says). Just wondered what you were taking with no sugar.

Our local supermarket Kroger has it's own brand of no-sugar fruit yogurt, "CarbMaster".  It's artificially sweetened.  The carbs in these "no-sugar" added yogurts have carbs, of course, but they are from the fruit, the yogurt itself and the artificial sweeteners.  In any case, it's less than if there is sugar in it.

Prayerful.  It's VitaminShoppe Fiber Blend.  The cost is $6.49 for a 3 month supply.  If you don't have a local VitaminShoppe visit any health food store and look in the Intestinal Health & Colon Care section for a similar product.   A little less than 10 calories for 3 capsules and less than 2g of carbs.   I don't know about the sugar.  If you're satisfied with the colon cleanse you won't need this product.  I prefer the capsules.
