I've just returned from my podiatrist (he said my feet look pretty much OK, phew).  He mentioned something about a brand new American report.  He was short on specifics but what he said that people are becoming non-diabetic by being able to reverse the causes, ie lose weight, maintain diet etc.  He said that the study showed that diabetic people are showing as not being diabetic any more.  Now we all know that weight loss, better eating, exercise etc can help stave off the effects of this disease, but I, like you would be a bit wary. I'd like to know if anyone else has heard of this report (apparently in the AMA??), what it says etc.  I'll have a look around, but I thought I'd let you know as soon as I heard it.
ps. If you're not sure about visiting a podiatrist, do it!  The guy I saw today did a lot of work with the aboriginies in our state's north.  One in two people there have diabetes and he has seen the horrible effects of not looking after your feet.

OK, I've had a pretty good look around and I can't see any headline stuff about this.  I wonder if he was referring to the islet transplants?  I didn't sound like it though.

OK, another update!  I've just seen on our local news that a chicken virus is being looked at as a potential way of getting the body to activate the immune system in such a way as to (in the words of the research chap), reverse such things as arthritis and diabetes.  They are hoping that should such a treatment become available, it will be able to be administered by your local doctor. The research looks to be local (to Australia) and to be funded by the government and drug companies.  The report also said that it is very early days (where have we heard that before?).  So I'll try to get more info and pass it on.

Thanks for the news flash. I love thinking there is hope in the long run for this disease.
