I am on metformin 1500 a day and it works well with my diabetes but in the morning it makes my stomach upset and diarrhea through out the day. I thought about asking for new medicine but this seems to be the safest and the other good medicine has the same effect as it seems what I'm reading. What are the medicines you are on and the side effects

I'm only on metformin. When it was prescribed for me, I was told to be sure to take it with food and to avoid carbs and greasy food because it would cause queasiness and/or diarrhea. The only times I've had any problems with it are when I've had dessert (too much of it, in fact) and I had a bad case of acid indigestion afterward.

This could be an individual thing. Maybe others can chime in here with their experiences.

One of the reasons Drs ramp up the dosage slowly from 500 up to whatever they really want you to take is because of the stomach and bowel reactions. As Lanie says, it seems to make a difference what you eat -- and for me, it matters how much I eat. If I don't eat enough while taking metformin, my body tells me about it in a not-so-nice manner.
