I was craving something chocolate and did some searching for low carb/low sugar goodie. I thought I had hit the mother lode with some simple chocolate wafers. They were sweeten with sorbitol.

Less than an hour later after eating 3 wafers my stomach went nuts with horrible noises and I was racing to the bathroom. smhair

I've found out that I'm very sensitive to sorbitol and will never, ever touch anything made with it again. mad

Can someone suggest an occasional chocolate goodie that is safe for us? I really miss my chocolate. cry

Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol and if you eat too much of it, you can get diarrhea. This can happen to anyone. Even chewing too much gum with xylitol can give you gas.

I eat a couple of squares of the Lindt 80 % Dark Chocolate if I feel a craving. You can even put some natural peanut butter on them. Regular peanut butter has nothing but peanuts and some salt.

Sorbitol makes dark chocolate taste like milk chocolate. So, if you eat any "sugar-free" chocolate or candies, eat only very little to see how you react. Also, if you eat a lot at one time, they can affect blood sugar.

Thanks.
A serving of the wafers was 5 and I ate only 3 , so I say I'm sensitive to it, most definitely.

By the way my morning BS was 107 and before dinner was 73. I'm doing a little wiggle dance now. 😊

Try the dannon lite and fit chocolate covered bannana or strawberries

Thanks, wg. I bought some light and fit whipped yogurt the other day. I haven't seen any in chocolate flavor yet at my local store. I'll keep my eyes open for it.

Joy, I'm usually not on this forum but saw your post. I buy Hood's Calorie Countdown chocolate milk found in the refrigerator case. It's only 80 calories and 6 carbs for a whole cup.

Here is a link that shows the nutrition values. It's delicious, too and satisfies the chocolate craving for me.
