Glyberide, Advantia, Metoformin. 2000 milligrams of cinnamon.Lipitor, zestril, 1 a day viatmain,(anti oxident) Herbal supplement. 1 pill containing about 10 herbs. I like to cover all the bases. Supplement are open ended things. Thre is no ending. If I were to take everything that I read about I proably would be taking 100 pills per day. The most important medicine to take is the right amount and choices of food.

Hi Friend 2 All,

Please be careful of taking Chromium as dosages shown to have any effect on your BS have also been shown to be highly toxic (causing cancer and other nasty things).

There is a lot of debate going round whether Vitamin E is safe or not!

Dear FRIEND 2 ALL,
I think you've raised this question to ascertain the rationale behind each one's prescribed drugs,am i right?
I believe in the concept of "relative beta cell rest"as complete rest is not possible as food is a stimulus. The drugs i take,Rosiglitazone,Metformin and Acarbose do not act on the insulin-producing cells.
I have been taking these drugs since 10 years, with my HbA1C hovering around 6,and i think iam doing okay.

p.s:forget about my comment on the safety of Vit.E!

Hey, sharer, that comment about Vitamin E is valid! Excessive E intake has been linked to heart attacks. Glad you brought it up!

Dear Jeannie,
Three points about Vit.E which many of us take (it for granted).

1)If i remember right they were talking of doses in excess of 1000 mgs per day. Most anti-oxidant containing caps.contain 400 mgs,a few 600 mgs.As you rightly said you're in for trouble if you take 2 or more per day!

2)A landmark study was conducted in the USA(HOPE study) studying the benefit of Vitamin E on heart attack rate (among other things) and found no difference between a simple sugar coated pill and Vit.E containing ,similar looking tablet,in preventing heart attacks. So,no protection there!

3) A small study(i don't have the details) showed that Vit.E can slow down the development of Cataracts.Usually small studies deserve a follow up by a well-planned trial, which was not done here.

Hi Sharer,

The one thing that most people forget about Vit. E or ANY vitamin in oil capsule form is that it is probably rancid and therefore doing all the damage to you that you were originally taking it to prevent.  skull

This isn't due to poor packaging techniques or poor quality control, its just a fact of life as concerns oil in capsules.  A few studies I've read have shown lots of well known brands tested just as they arrived from the factory at the store; the results being that in nearlyl 90% of the cases the oil based vitamins were rancid.

The solution of course is to take a "dry" form of the vitamin.  I know that this is off the main topic but I thought I'd bring this up for all of you that take vitamin capsules that contain oil.
