OMGosh! Why didn't this make world headlines!!!! With the increase in diabetes it makes sense that there could be a type 3 that did something entirely different... So, Warren, does this make taking insulin a sort of insurance policy against Alzheimers? I wonder... there wasn't that much info in the press release. We'll have to see.

It also makes you wonder whether there are further types of diabetes, and realise just how important insulin is (although we already know that!) tongue

Hopefully, this will be a major step in curing both Alzheimer's AND diabetes if this turns out to be type 3.

The problem is something called the "blood brain" barrier.  I know that insulin we take helps augment our normal blood sugars, but this research shows that the brain ALSO produces its own insulin as the brain is a major processor of sugar.  Thats why Hypoglycemia is so dangerous as it's shorrting the brain on sugar.  I don't pretend to know how the mechanism in the brain really works and if the brain only uses the insulin it produces or if the insulin we take can actually pass through the blood brain barrier.  It will be interesting to see...but this was definately some major findings.

When I did a search on this info I found that it was released in Britain on the BBC but for some reason it didn't make our news here... and it's been discussed at least since last March! Somebody call CNN! People should know this stuff!Ok.. I'm calmer now... It did make CNN in November of '05. I guess it wasn't considered very note worthy... Plus I've let my diabetes magazines expire so I din't hear of it that way...

about the type 3 diabetes; the news station to get it to would be FoxNews.com. They are the best for keeping news "out front" and also Bill O'Reilly on FoxNews does a lot of investigating articles like this.
