Hi
I am new to this site. I find it to be responsible and thoughtful, which is great. I read about Diabeticine, which I have in the house but haven't yet opened. I am using Glucobetic, put out by Flourish and find that it seems to help. I have Type 2 for five years. Does anyone else use this product and if so, how do you think it compares to Diabeticine?
Thanks

Hi Cary B,

I tried Glucobetic once upon a time and it didn't really do anything for me!  Its major component is Chromium which if taken in doses that are effective enough to move your blood sugar can be potentially dangerous.  I find what Flourish wellness charges for a bottle of that stuff to be criminal vs taking any of the effective ingrediants separately from the health food store.  Read down through the forum as there is a post on foods that can lower your blood sugar and have been proven to do so.  Your much better off going this route than making Flourish wellness richer!

I use Glucobetic now. It was around $30.00 Can't tell one way or another if it helps. It' herbs. Herbs were use hundreds of years ago for Diabetis.before there were even prescription medicines. They have a big following in the orient. Some people religiously believe in them. There have been alot of studies done, of course not oveseen by the FDA It's hard to tell if it helps or not. There are so many variable factor in controlling this disease. It' hard to isolate. We know portion control helps. We know counting carbs help, We know exercise helps. We know prescription medicine helps. Herbs Who Knows? Somethings work for some people and other they have no effect. No 2 people alike There is just an overload of information out here that really can not be verified. Like everything with this disease you have to be a detective. I take herbs minerals, spices vitamins. Like to cover all the bases just in case. If a Doctor recommend it and I have respect for the Physicians Knowledge I take it. Especially Dr Atkins. I could not follow his regimen, but he has treated over 5000 Diabetic patients and truly understands how the body functions and reacts to different stimuli. I don't think he is a quack or a charlaton. But who can afford $300 per month in supplements. I would be taking 100 pills a day if I took everything I've read about.

If you read the label for Glucobetic, it contains 240mcg of Chromium per capsule and they recommend you take 2 capusules per day!. It also has a variety of herbs in varying amounts. It is not recommended to use chromium picolinate to control blood sugar levels. There is no proof that chromium supplements can help treat or prevent diabetes and other health problems. Methods to assess chromium amounts in the body are lacking, but chromium is stored in hair and blood (serum).

It is relatively easy to get safe and adequate amounts of chromium (50-200 micrograms per day) by eating a variety of foods like brewer's yeast, calf's liver, American cheese and wheat germ.

People who take chromium picolinate supplements may suffer health problems rather than improved health. Although claims of weight loss, lowered cholesterol and reversal of diabetes are unfounded, researchers have shown that chromium supplements damaged cell chromosomes which are the blueprints for a cell's function and reproduction. It is generally thought that cancer starts with a change to the genetic material in a cell causing it to grow and reproduce without restraint. 500mcg of chromium per day is bordering on dangerous and I wouldn't use this product.
