Well, I've been getting 98's most every morning lately and I can't really understand why... Doesn't seem like I'm doing anything different but I must be because I used to wake up to 130's and 115's all the time. The only thing I can possibly pin this on is that I gave up chocolate for Lent...

Maybe I was overdoing the "One little piece a day" that I allowed myself... Don't know...confused

A good thing, though! Yesterday I was looking for a legitimate cheat that I could have for those times when I want to tear the house apart. I discovered gummy worms! They are fat free, very chewy (like rubberbands!) to satisfy my 'need for chewy', and they are very low carb. Plus! They actually have a bit of protein in them! They really did the trick. Just wanted to offer this as a possible try for those of you who sometimes need a little sweet that's not too awful bad for you.

I had not had chocolate or wine since I was diagnosed as Type II back in October. Then one day I was craving chocolate. I looked over the exchanges and found that a tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa was allowed. I brewed some coffee, stirred in a tablespoon of Ghiradelli unsweetened cocoa and some splenda and sprinkled in 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon. Delicious. It satisfies me when I feel I just have to have "something".

Oooooooooooooh! That recipe is now embedded in my brain! Sounds absolutely sinful! (Of course I'll have to wait until Easter morning to have it!!!)

Jeannie, Ghiradelli unsweetened cocoa has no sugar and only 3 grams of carbs in a tablespoon. If you use coffee instead of milk, splenda instead of sugar, and have the added benefit of cinnamon to help lower your sugars anyway, it makes as "guilt-free" a treat as we are allowed. Why do you have to wait to have it? Is it the caffeine? Then use decaf instead.

J.. I gave up chocolate for Lent... That means I can't have it until Easter morning which is the end of Lent.

What kind of sweetner do they use on the gummy bears?  Are they using aspartame, sucralose/splenda or any other synthetic sugars?  Thanks.

I believe that they use actual sugar which is sucrose. We are allowed to have sucrose but just not at the expense of more nutritious foods that also contain carbs. An occasional treat in place of a bread or potato or rice is a great way to stay on track with your food plan. It prevents you from feeling deprived and just 'throwing in the towel' and binging on lots of sweets or carbs.

Sometimes I will just dream about something like butterscotch brownies for days!!! So I'll make a batch, keep four out for dinner and take the rest over to my grandkids house. Get the dumb things out of my system! Works for me...
