Hello!

New here, but wanted to see if anyone has any relief ideas.  I'm currently living with my mom who has diabetes, however she has also reached menopause age and is going through severe hot flashes/night sweats (not exactly sure which one is causing what!).
Although she's on medication, we've both done alot of research to see what can make her more comfortable...besides all the usual recommendations (take a shower before bed, sleep in a cool room etc.) does anybody know of any clothes or sheets that help this so she's not constantly changing?  Once again, I've done research and have found a few companies on the internet (wildbleu, hotmama etc.) that seem to provide the stuff, but I'd rather hear from someone that's used the products first.  Help anyone?

Thanks!
Brandi

Brandi,
There is a post about this on the Fibromyalgia forum with recommendations about what to wear and where to find it.

Brandi:  My husband and I are new here too!  My husband has type II diabetes and suffers from night sweats.  I clicked on the link provided but it is no longer there.  I was wondering if I should check his sugar when he wakes up like that?  I'll be so glad when we learn more about type II.  I'm reading all I can on it but still have not found anything to tell me more regarding the sweats.

Hi Fran and Brandi,

Im a type II and I used to suffer from horrendous night sweats.  HOWEVER, it was ONLY after I started taking insulin that this happended.  I couldn't have been my blood sugar reading because I had been living with high BS for some time and that never caused the night sweats.  The minute I wound up in the hospital from an infection and they gave me insulin, BINGO..the nightsweats started.  When I got home and my Endo guy put me on Lantus, I knew it was the cause as I could take a shot in the morning and feel the sweats start soon after.

Now Im off the insulin and onto different meds and the night sweats are gone completely.  I don't know if either of you are on insulin, and I sure wouldn't recommend giving up your insulin to stop the night sweats, but I offer up the insulin as a probable cause!

Wow, I was quite unaware of the relationship between insulin and night sweats. My husband is Type I and has a lot of these-we just attributed it to the fact he once had malaria. I've never seen any articles before pertaining to this--thanks for the enlightenment.

Haven't been on in a bit, but thanks for all the info. guys!  Since my mom is at that age, we're not sure if was either menopause or the diabetes that was bringing it on...but now that I see other people have experiences like this with the insulin, it might be just that!  Jeannie, thanks for the link...I'm aware of most of these, but just wanted to see if there was anybody that had any recommendations as I've heard some pj's work better than others...guess they pretty much do the same thing, so I'll just wing it and buy a couple for my mom...thanks again guys!

Warren:  Thank you for sharing the info. My husband is on Lantus at night.  He was taking 3o units of Lantus at bedtime, they have dropped him back to 25 units.  During the day he is on a sliding scale with Humalog.
We, like many others, were unable to find a satisfactory answer as to the cause of the sweats.  Again, thank you for sharing your info!!!
