Hello!  I am doing this for my husband who still is having a hard time sitting up for too long.  He recently found out he has type II.  This is all new to us, and frankly I'm becoming overwhelmed and over protective of him.  He is 52 yrs. old and holds a Masters degree.  This has been rough on him.  Just seeking advice on food, sweats, diabetic neuropathy and anything else.  I hope I'm doing this right and apologize if I'm not.  Hopefully he will be able to talk to you himself within a few days.  Thank you for listening.

Welcome! You're in exactly the right place. Read back in the posts and you will learn lots of tips about food plans, checking blood sugar, meds and other stuff you need to know. Don't worry. We will walk you thru it and we will be here to answer whatever questions we can. In the mean time... Take a deep breath and relax. You CAN DO THIS!

I have to go out of town for the weekend but I'll try to connect next week. Take care.

Jeannie:  Thank you for your kind reply!!  I was beginning to get worried.  Bob is also in a 20 yr. remission of Crohn's disease, from which he now has an illeostomy.  He is a psychologist and used to working.  This has hit him hard.  I am trying to get the feel of this forum and will be reading through the posts soon.  Again, thank you for your kindness!!  It is much appreciated!!!
Sincerely,
Fran

wbisme:  Thank you very much for your response and concern.  You are correct in the fact regarding the neuropathy. His Dr. in Tulsa told us.  Bob had been doing well up until last yr. when he found a hernia.  On Mar. 6th of this yr., I had a huge tumor on my adrenal gland, both tumor and gland were removed.  I begged to come home early.  The night I came home, all Bob did was to get up to get my meds, and the hernia burst.  He was deathly ill, and in putting him in the hospital is when we found out about the diabetes.

No one else in his entire family has it.  My mother developed type II at 55.  I should have recognized the symptoms but did not.  I cannot tell you how bad I feel about that.  He has a good out look concerning the diabetes, however, he is depressed due to the fact that he cannot work yet. Plus wondering if the diabetes will hinder him being hired again.

I read your response to him and he is happy to know that he isn't alone with this! He will hopefully get to talk to you himself soon.  Just to give you an idea of how weak he is, he is 6'2 and usually weighs in at 250.  Now he weighs 164 1/4.  It takes all his strength to get up out of bed, but he is doing it!!  I'm trying to read through all the posts as much as I can.  My time is not really my own yet.  Thank you again for being friendly to us "new comers!"  Blessings to you and yours!

Fran
