I am new to this forum but I noticed in several assorted postings people talking about how they ahve to pay cash for their Glucose meters, test strips, etc.
My advice as an uninsured Type-II diabetic...eBay!
I was diagnosed with diabetes 8 months ago. I am uninsured amd very low income. My solution? ...eBay.
My first meter was a brand new Accu-Check Complete, in the sealed box, complete with lancing device, lancettes, software to download and track your numbers and the computer cable required. The whole kit cost me $12.00 plus $5.00 S/H.
Just this past month I decided that despite my finances, etc. the 2x a day finger sticks were becomming too painful. I went to Wal-Mart where I purchased a Freestyle Flash unit with lancing device, carry case, etc for $38.88 and the box came with a mail-in $40 rebate coupon...so it was all FREE. The test strips run roughly $50 for 50 or $95 for 100. I bought 100 strips unopened and good until 8/2007 for $38. Then in a second eBay auction I bought another 50 strips good until 8/2006 for just $5.50 plus $4 shipping!
Folks, if you have never used eBay, are uninsured are hard pressed to pay for your supplies...TRY IT!
In fact, just a few days later on eBay I purchased a brand new Full sized Freestyle meter, new in box with all accesories for $15.00 including S/H. This meter is the one I use at home and the very small Freestyle Flash is the one I carry on me. Both use the same strips and can download data onto the computer software provided.
There is no reason for you to be breaking the bank buying locally at full retail folks...go take a look!
