Good morning everyone.  I just caught part of a morning program on Fox News where a doctor was talking about the benefits of cinnamon, especially in relation to lowering blood glucose levels.  The runner across the bottom said something about a recipe for using it in your tea, but I did not see or hear anything else about that.  This doctor said that simply sprinkling cinnamon on your cereal, etc. (which I have been doing daily -- yum!) is not effective because the salliva in your mouth neutralizes it.  He suggested capsules or adding a stick of fresh cinnamon to coffee before it is ground or brewed.  Won't work for me.....I don't like coffee!  I thought I heard the entire segment on this, but perhaps I missed something as tea was not mentioned.  Any thoughts on this?  I did a little reading on line, but I did not find the point about saliva neutralizing cinnamon in what I read.  Has anyone tried cinnamon capsules?

Have a good day, everyone! :-)

Hi Babsie,

I routinely use cinnamon capsules as part of my daily routine.  They will help with your numbers but not significantly enough to eliminate your oral medications.  I should also add that they are only beneficial for type II patients as the insulin mechanism is permanently broken in type 1 patients.

So, cinnamon won't get you off any of your meds, but it can help you with lower overall numbers and this could over the long term lower the dosage of some of the meds you are already taking.  Its definately worth taking in my opinion.

I can only please one person per day, today is not your day...tomorrow doesn't look good either.

Thanks, Warren. I am not taking any meds yet. My doctor thinks I am doing well with diet and exercise so far, and thinks more weight loss will help. I guess I will head off to buy some cinnamon capsules! (Just diagnosed with Type II in February.) There sure is a lot to learn about managing a new lifestyle!

I wasn't aware of the saliva problem. Found a great article on it:

Cinnamon & Cloves in treatment of Diabetes

There's an explanation about using it in your coffee and tea also.

Thanks, Jeannie. The article was very helpful. I am still going to sprinkle cinnamon on my oatmeal anyway, because it tastes good!
