Ok, so I have not yet gone to the doctor, and obviously I wont know for sure until I do, but I need to know asap...  I'm 20 years old, I weigh approximately 305 lbs.  Back in July, I had a case of Chickenpox.  One of the chickenpox was on my right foot... To this day, the chickenpock remains on my foot, it looks infected and the surrounding area hurts often.  I have poor circulation in both legs, and arms.  Also, cuts do not heal as they should on my right foot.  Could this be diabetes?  If so, is it too late to save my foot/feet, or do I still have a chance?

If you had diabetes, you would have other symptoms such as frequent urination, excess thirst, weight loss, and a myriad of other symptoms. I'm not a dr.but can tell you I don't think you have it, if that's the only symptom you are presented with. You may just have a low immune system. Everyones body heals differently.

I'd say go get yourself checked out - there is still the possibilty you could have diabetes as you may not notice other symptoms if you've lived with them for a while.  Cuts etc healing slowly COULD be a symptom.  But whether it's diabetes or not, it's not good that your foot is taking so long to heal - you really need to get that checked out asap.

I did not have any symptoms of diabetes that I noticed. The consultant told me that they don't occur until your blood sugar reaches a certain limit, over 140 or so. The only way to catch it early is to have a simple blood test for it. You may or may not need further testing, but that can be determined later. I agree with Claire that no matter what the reason, if things are taking that long to heal you should have it checked out.
Take care. Lois

We aren't doctors so we can't diagnose... Please go to your doctor.

Whether or not your slow healing is caused by undiagnosed diabetes, you need to have it checked out.  See your Doctor.

I did not have any overt symptoms, but my blood sugar readings  over the years had run in the 'borderline' range ... so the actual diagnosis wasn't a complete surprise.  Again, see your Doctor.

Good Luck!  Let us know what you find out...   :-)

I didn't have any overt symptoms either-and my initial BS was 457! That's right- I wasn't tired, didn't have blurry vision, didn't have big thirst or frequent urination, and my cuts and bruises healed up quite nicely. I thought I might have a yeast infection, but hadn't had one in many years so I went to the doctor to get a Diflucan tablet if that was the case - she found so much sugar in my urine sample, I probably could have evaporated it into rock candy!

Anything that doesn't heal up should be checked out by a doctor. It will save you needless worry- and could save your life!

Let us know how you are and best of luck to you.

Sandy :-)
