I have recently been taken off Actos because it was making me look like a float in the Macy's day parade. I am taking the full dose (2500mg) of metformin in 3 doses over the course of the day. My doctor and I have discussed taking Januvia as a replacement for the Actos- I was wondering if anyone is taking it; what is has done to your numbers, esp the AM fasting; and have you experienced any side effects from it? Thanks! sandy

Under the heading "new diabetes drug" about 20 topics under your post is the info on Januvia you're looking for.

Hi Warren

I remember reading your original post- Are you still taking Januvia or did you stop after your 2 day trial? With the metformin my numbers are fairly respectable during the day (90's-low 100's)  and at the 2hour mark after beginning a meal. I rarely get above 120- 130, even with starchy carbs. My AM BG is in the 120's and my doctor would like it to be at or under 100- so we were hoping that the Januvia might help with that. sandy

I think given those numbers Januvia would probably put you right where you want to be!!  It seems to have minimal side effects and to be tailor made for your situation.  I'd certainly go for it if your doctor has suggested it!!

Thanks for your help! I hesitate to be the first to jump on the medicine bandwagon- but I think I'll give it a try if she has samples for me :-)   sandy
