Hi,

I'm wondering about heart disease ... do any of you have it? And if so, how do you deal with it? I have MAJOR heart disease in my birth family and am starting to show some heart symptoms. It may be stress (majorly stressful life here) and then again it might be something else. I am now officially wired up with electrodes for a few days. No big deal, but I have to admit my mind is more than wandering to heart disease. Yes, my good cholesterol is low and my bad is not HIGH, but higher than we'd like. I eat well and exercise regularly. My weight is in the "average" zone ... not overweight. I don't know about my birth family and cholesterol but I'd bet it was high in more than one member. I'm curious as to why my doctor doesn't have me on a med other than the prescription strength niacin ... 1500 units a day.

How about you guys? What's up with your hearts?

Thanks for any and/or all info. you can give me!

Ruth

My last EKG and stress test were passed with flying colors. My maternal grandfather and my paternal grandmother both died of sudden heart attacks so I guess I have a 50/50 chance of dying of a heart attack. The grandmother who died also had diabetes and it's thru her bloodline that my diabetes came... so... um... ?

To be honest Ruth, I've done hospice in my home with my mom-in-law with Parkinsons/Severe Osteoporosis/Degenerative Joint disease... My dad suffered for years with mild dementia and a slew of minor stuff that eventually killed him... If I had my druthers... I 'druther' die of a heart attack. I figure we are all gonna die some day, let's do it quick and easy, not this "We'll keep you alive as long as possible" thing. This is my personal opinion and I pray every day that I can accept with grace whatever the Good Lord sends my way, but I'm not one much for the long drawn out painful existence thing...

Anyway, my doctor has me on 10mg of Lipitor (a statin) for helping my cholesterol. It works well in diabetics and is fairly commonly prescribed by doctors who treat diabetics. Maybe you should ask your doc about his/her opinion on statins?

Yours may be one of them...

Thanks, Jeannie.

I agree with you ... I'd MUCH rather go quickly too!! When we meet again (my doctor and I) I will definitely ask about statins. I already wonder why she hasn't put me on something!
