I have a question here that I am sure Warren and maybe others can explain really well.

What exactly is the C-Peptide fasting test? Does it tell the levels of insulin within your blood or what? If you have insulin resistance like myself, what would it show then? And would it tell whether or not your pancreas is getting ready to die out entirely?

I've never had any such test before obviously, and was wondering what all it would tell me and my doctor about my diabetes.

Hi Jenefier,

A c-peptide test is a test that is run as a supplement to insulin measuments in a fast.  Typically a fast of seventy two hours is used and the c-peptide test is the test that indicates the level of pancreatic activity. If your c-peptide level is elevated it could indicate an insulinoma.  Most often this test is used to diagnose Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).  Hope this helps.
