Anyone with Diabetes Insipidus?

I was wondering if anyone here has diabetes insipidus? I have hypoglycemia and adrenal insufficiency and my endocrineologist told me to watch for the signs of this. I just wanted to know what kinds of signs to watch for. I am having trouble finding much info on this disorder.

Hi Christy, I'm sure it's hard to deal with several health issues at the same time!  What I found out about diabetes insipidus is that it is not related to diabetes melitis or "sugar" diabetes as it used to be called.  According to some websites, it's sometimes called "water diabetes" because the symptoms are frequent urination and thirst.  For that reason, it's sometimes mistaken by DM but a blood test will tell the difference.  It's a completely different illness.  The little I read about it said the treatment might be further tests to confirm it.  There's a Diabetes Insipidus Foundation that you can proably find on the web.  Good luck!

I have had diabetes insipidus for 24 years - caused by a tumor that I had removed from my pituitary gland. The main symptom is that you can't concentrate your urine...so you are insanely thirsty and pee out lots of clear urine. Before I was put on DDAVP, an anti-diuretic hormone, nothing could satisfy my thirst, and I would drink gallons of water. The DDAVP concentrates the urine and relieves the dehydration. So be on the lookout for excess thirst and frequent urination. Good luck!
