Hi Everyone,
This is my first post on the diabetes board. I am a regular over on the panic board. I posted the following message on that board and wanted to do it here too. Please don't "beat me up" for being a BAD patient. I'm paying for my sins enough w/o needing a whooping too. Maybe y'all can offer me some insight that I haven't gotten before. I hope so! Thanks!
janet
Here's what i posted on the other board:

I hesitated to post this as I can see no way to explain without being a bit graphic...it's not something I'm comfortable talking about but it may help any underlying anxiety about it by talking about it. If you don't want to read this (it is gross!), please STOP NOW.
For the last 4-5 days, I've been having to go to the bathroom quite frequently. Today I've already been about 5-6 times. Some of my stools are solid mixed with a lot of liquid and then other times it's like watery mud sitting in the bottom of the toilet. The color is yellow basically (no blood thankfully!). I've been feeling extremely tired all over and am sleepy all day, no matter how much sleep I get! I am overweight (I weighed last night and I'm fatter than I've EVER been!). I am "borderline" diabetic and have been being way too lax with the sugar.... nono   (I am not on diabetes meds) Thinking that my blood sugar might be too high has caused me to behave myself today as all I've drank is water and ate veg's and skinless chicken. I will continue to "be good" because now I'm freaked out by the constant diarrhea and extreme weight gain! Mom says I look puffy, so I may have some water gain as well as fat gain! I am not on my period nor is it due soon.
I lay on my bed for a few minutes just now and tried to cry cuz I feel rough and am worried. I don't want to have to go to doctor because I'm scared of colonoscopies and barium enemas and such. I don't think my anxiety disorder would let me do it!!!! I'm also leery of having all my meds washed out of my system. I'm afraid I'll have a setback with the GAD!
I am going to eat right and see what happens over the next few days. Mom says I should take metamucil like I used to do when I had a lot of diarrhea years ago to form bulk (I was diagnosed with IBS years ago and that's what the doc prescribed)
When I ate today, it wasn't very long before I was in the bathroom and I could see that some of what I had eaten was already leaving my system...
Any thoughts are welcome.
thanks all,
janet

Listen ... I struggle with anxiety myself and I'm telling you, the things I tell myself are MUCH worse than the truth. Get your mom or a friend to go with you to the doctor.

I've had colonoscopies ... your meds will not be washed out of your system. Your BOWELS are emptied, not your blood!! Get answers to your questions so you can tell yourself the truth.

I DO understand panic and I'm NOT yelling at you at all for being a bad patient. I just know truth goes a lot farther than fear ... I struggle with what I'm talking about, really. But we do need to take some of the control BACK.
Cheers -

Hi Janet,

It could be a virus... you should at least go see your doctor and have him check what's going on. As you know, I'm also an A/P person, and we always imagine the worst, but it could be something simple. As for eating veggies and chicken when you're having diarreah, I think maybe that's too hard on your system. Maybe you could try broth and toast for a while to see if you can let your system get settled down. As for colonoscopies, I've had one and it's not bad because they put you out. If your doc thinks you need one, try not to worry, but remember... it might just be a virus or something. Sorry you are going through all this, and let us know how your doing. (((Hugs)))

Janetlee,

Right now there is a summer virus making the rounds and I had it myself last week. Spent most of each day in the bathroom and had trouble with my food choices. The dry toast and broth idea is ideal for that condition until your system settles down. I'd give it a week before going to the doc as long as you aren't seeing blood in the stool.

As for your other issues, I would hope that we could see you here a lot as we help you with your food plan, weight loss and exercise regimen. We have quite a few pre-diabetics (the term 'borderline' has been erased from the medical dictionary for inaccuracy.) who are learning to prevent this disease from going full blown and they have lots of helpful tips for keeping you on track.

I don't know your age but it sounds to me that you could use some knowledgeable diabetics in your corner to help you along. We have a lot of those here and they are some of the kindest peeps you will ever meet. Read back in the posts and see what you can find out about your condition. And post away with your questions. We will help you as much as we can.

As a Diabetic, IBD & IBS sufferer   I can sympathize with you.     What veggies are you eating at the moment.  Corn, peas, anything with skins will aggrevate your  bowel.  Your Mum is right about the Metimucal.  It does help alot.  I may take a day or 2 but is worth it in the "end" tongue    Try sticking to low fiber veggies.  at least for a day or two to see if it helps.   Also try to stick to steamed chicken.    Fats will also aggrevate your IBS.

As for Colonoscopies,  They are nothing to worry about.  They are a good tool to use to make sure you do not have problems besides the IBS.  They give you very good drugs and you will not remember anything about getting it.      I am an old pro at them I will have my 8th is 15 yrs Aug 13. So  I can say it is nothing to worry about and is an excellant diagnostic tool.

My doctor said my IBS is caused by strss. Maybe he's right, I'm not sure of anything anymore!
He said my blood sugar doesn't need to be checked cuz it when it was checked the last time, it was close to normal. He didn't check it though and i don't have the tools to do it with.
thanks for all advice and kind words
