in my A1c, that is - doing the happy dance here to the tune of 5.0!!!!
I've been driving up and down the eastern seaboard from OHIO to Providence, to Charleston, SC and back to OHIO- helping my youngest daughter to re-locate. (Eight hot, long days on the road!) Exercise rooms/pools at every hotel and better numbers than at home!!!  On to Minneapolis for another road trip in a week. lol
I came home to the happy news that my A1c dropped yet again, my lipid profile was equally as good (LDL=84; HDL = 58; triglycerides = 56); all other systems normal. Even better- my doctor doesn't want to see me for 6 months, unless my numbers start to fluctuate. This was the 1-year anniversay of my Dx to the day (A1c 15, FBS 457).
I really want to thank everybody here who gave me so much help during those dark, first weeks esp Jeannie, Fergusc, and Warren.
Jeannie who always gives such warm welcomes and thorough explanations to everybody who comes here.
Fergusc who showed me the path to low carb eating (even as a veggie!)
Warren who scared the bejesus out of (into?) me- making me see that diabetes is serious business and nothing to be trifled with- even though I thought I felt fine and dandy.
And everybody else, always willing to share and share some more.
Good health and thanks again yeah sandy

you should be proud of those numbers!  If you can simply make what you're doing your "lifestyle" you are gonna live to a ripe old age!!

Sandy, you should be put on the pedestal for success over diabetes.  You are proof that your path to health is successful and I hope we can all follow you!  And - you've also proven that the ADA nutrition pyramid of food is wrong.  Congratulations!  You're the role model for all of us to be sure!  Keep it up!   yeah

Sandy, you're a star. The only one you need to thank is yourself for the wisdom to choose the right path in the face of so much poor advice from the so called experts. Not only have you pulled it off, but as a veggie it must have presented even more challenges. I have nothing but admiration for what you've achieved.
Your next HbA1c will start with a 4, I know it will!

All the very best,

You are amazing! If your name was Grace you'd be Amazing Grace! Happy, happy, Joy, joy! Great numbers... but one question. Does this mean we have to go traveling up and down the eastern seaboard to get those great numbers? (LOL!) I am amazed that you did so well with such a goofy schedule... and those dramatic differences from last year's diagnosis. I'll bet your doctor will be smiling for a long time to see a patient actually do as you are supposed to do and get better results!

Now you need to extend your right arm forward, bend it at the elbow and reach your hand over your left shoulder... and give yourself a BIG PAT ON THE BACK for a job well done! You are an inspiration to us all and a poster child for newly diagnosed diabetics. Congratulations!

You guys are great! Thanks for all the kind words. I am truly grateful for all the help and good, practical advice you are so willing to share.
If I listened to my CDE, dietitian, and even my doctor (at the beginning), I'd still be eating mountains of carbs, my A1c would be sky high, I'd be 50 pounds heavier, and my prescription costs would be on the rise!
Instead, I am happy, healthier than I have been for a long time- I wore my daughter (29 years old) out at a recent shop-till-you-drop event at the outlet malls before she left New England, and try to live every day to the fullest. I am back to traveling, going to concerts, eating out, SHOPPING (not spending though). I am not afraid of food any more, and it no longer controls me- I am sure, I'd still be living in fear and moping around the house waiting for the big D to get me if is wasn't for having a support group like you.
My new motto is 'if diabetes is going to take me out a piece at a time, I'm going to enjoy every piece I have while I have it!'
sandy yeah
