Hi All, I have a question that is directed to the other women on this forum (although if you are a man and have some insights, they are welcome!). I have been aware of my type 2 diabetes for about 9 months now. It has improved greatly, but I have noticed that every month when i get my period - from about 2 days before the start until the end - my levels are way higher. This morning my fasting was 121, and last night 2 hours after dinner, 138. Usually my a.m. readings are 100-108 (still not good enough, I know!) and after dinner, 110-120. Does anyone have the same experience, or is this just something that is happening to me? Thanks!

Zephany

Lanie,

I read your reply with the link to the article last night, and just wanted to say thank you for the information. I suppose it makes sense that the hormones would elevate everything - just like when I had gestational diabetes. Anyway, I wanted to read the article again but it has been removed (?). I know you are and administrator so there must be an official reason. So thanks for the link and I really value all the great insights i find on this forum!

Hi Zeph, it does make sense about the hormone connection and it's good to know there's a reason why the blood sugar would be elevated during that time in the month.  I'm sure it's a relief actually so you know it's not because you're doing something wrong!  There might be a reason the actual website link can't be posted here but I'm looking into it.  In the meantime, I found it by googling 'mentruation and blood sugar'.  This is a women's health site and covers all health matters.  Take care.

Hi again Zephany, here is the website with the article about how blood sugar can indeed elevate during menstruation.  You probably can't control that too much but just continue eating your healthy diet.
yeah

Take care and thanks for your patience.  I'm sorry it took so long to get back to you.
