I have rotator cuff issues and the cortisone shot didn't help. I am thinking of trying glucosamine/chondroitin for a few months to see if that gives it any relief. Has anyone taken it and did it effect your blood sugar or interact negatively with your diabetes meds? I am on metformin and Januvia. I didn't want to spend the money and then discover it play havoc with my numbers.

Hi Karen,

I also have rotator cuff issues. I have a trainer at the YMCA I go to who is working with me on the issues. There are some exercises that can help with rotator cuff issues.

I took glucosamine/Chondroitin 2 years ago as recommended by an orthopedic surgeon (I had knee problems at that time). It does raise blood sugars and sometimes quite dramatically. My primary physician (who was also diabetic) at the time took me off it because he said it can raise sugar levels. He also said that each person is different so others might not have this problem.

Here is what happened to me: before taking the glucosamine/chondroitin my bs reading was 110 at 1 hour after it was 150, at 2 hours it was over 200! Additionally, it did nothing to help me

As each person is different please make sure to test extra if you take it.

Thanks, Marburg. I just had a feeling that might be the case. All I have to do is look at a carb cross-eyed and my sugar goes up. And that stuff is do frigging expensive that I didn't want to spend the money only to through them out. I do have a sheet of exercises for rotator cuff that one of my clients gave me so I guess I'll break down and try those.

Karen and Marburg

I think I saw a gel- type glucosamine/ chondroitin product at the vitamin store the other day. Might this be a solution for you?
