Hi I'm new to the board.

I have complex partial seizures located in my left temperal lobe.  I've had epilepsy for about 7 years now.  It was due to a head injury I had.

For the past three years my siezures are mostly controlled.  I do not lose my awareness now.
Before my seizures would begin with a severe dejavu feeling, breathing would become difficult and everything in my vision and hearing would disappear.  Then I would hallucinate.  In a completely different place with ppl around.  I would be so confused and then I would get the feeling that I understood what was happening.  Next thing I was back here, in reality.  And could not remember what I'd seen or heard only the feelings I'd had.  Usually the dejavu and fear.  My speech and thinking is then scramble from 30 minutes to 3 hrs later.

You can imagine before i was diagnosed, I was terrified, I was schitzophrenic.  My husband thought I was phycic, my mother thought I was having visions, and my dad thought I was on drugs.  The peanut gallery!  After suffering nearly 2 years I finally saw the doctor and was relieved with a dx of epilepsy.

As I said I've not lost awareness in three years.  I still get the dejavu, and pick at my fingers and clothes.  My speech gets slower and slurred.  But I am fully aware of what is happening.

Anyway, that's my intro.  HOpe I get to meet everyone on here.

I would like to welcome you to HealingWell.  Believe me, you have found a great site.  I was just diagnosed about two years ago myself and as new and different things would happen to me, I don't know what I would have done without Darren, Randy and the others here.

Darren is our forum moderator.  He lives on the other side of the world, so I thought I would at least welcome you.  Darren is like a walking encyclopedia when it comes to epilepsy.  If he doesn't know the answer, he will try very hard to find it for you.

Take care!

Thanks Carla,

Sounds like a warm forum to be on. For the most part my seizures are controlled at the moment. But one can never really tell. It seems to have a life of it's own at times. I'm glad to have a place to come when it does happen now. My hubby never quite understands. He yells at me to sit down as I'm heading off into what I call the twilight zone. He thinks he's helping...but he doesn't get I have no control over my body and very little, if any over my mind. In fact it makes the "fear" feelings worse. I've told him that, but he just doesn't understand. And other people freak out greatly. It'll be nice to have some people who understand to talk with.

Thank you so much for your reply!

I'm sure he thinks he is helping and you are probably not going to change him.

I live alone and when I was first diagnosed two years ago, a lot of people thought I should have someone stay with me.  People offered to stay with me.  I kindly declined their offers.

As far as I am concerned, that is about three steps away from the nursing home when you have to have someone stay with you.  I am conscious during my seizures, they have a pattern.  I want my independence.  It took awhile for everyone to understand.

Take care!

HI there,

Carla has done a wonderful job of welcoming you and I would like to do the same. I always tell people that thyere is no such thing as a stupid question if you dont know the answer, so if there is anything you want to know... please ask.

I look forward to hearing more from you!

Darren

Can paranoid thoughts be a type of seizure? A few weeks ago I was going to bed and the house was dark. I kept having this fearful feeling like someone was in the house. Like a home invasion or something. I kept tellling myself it wasn't real. I have also had the feeling like I can't breath but that only happens at nite when I am either asleep or just falling asleep. This and other strange sensations. The only daytime symtom I have is "staring". My Neurologist said that some of my symtoms I described could be explained if I did indeed have a seizure disorder. Dizziness, vertigo, falling sensation. Paresthesias.

Sorry for hijacking your thread! Welcome! this is a great forum. Great folks here

p.s. Not sure if I have epilepsy but I do know that I have fibromyalgia
