I am 26 years old and have been playing the ping pong game with doctors and hospitals. I passed out 8/1/08 at work and was unconsciencous with possible seizure activity for 5-7 minutes. The weird thing is I felt and heard everything just couldn't respond. So off I went to the hospital where they admitted me for pain and nausea control as I had abdominal pain and a headache that couldn't be controlled in the er. I was there for 6 days and nothing was said except IBS and I passed out due to dehydration. The second event was on 8/22/08 same thing passed out at work only this time I knew it was coming I felt very disoriented and confused and very tired. Hospital said same thing passed out from dehydration due to IBS and sent me home. The IBS has resolved some what on a new med (Donnatal) and I've been feeling better. Then 9/10/08 came and it started again and we all new what was going to happen..I went pale as can be, my cheeks were bright red and I was really warm to the legs felt like jelly and I couldn't put any weight on them. I was confused and disoriented and seemed to space out and when the docotor was called I was told to visit the ER. I've become a familiar face and the ER doc knew who I was and we explained everything. While waiting for lab results I just felt really weird and things were weird. I was really tired so I closed my eyes and when I opened them everything was black and white. I knew this was wrong but jsut couldn't comprehend it/ Then it happened again I went limp my eyes rolled back and were fluttering breathing was really rapid and I was unresponsive. My friend got the doc and they went into action but I just couldn't respond to anything. Eventually they broke out the smelling salts and that brought me back. She sent me for a head ct that was normal and decided she couldn't send me home and admitted me. While inpatient I had several more episodes and was told I was having seizures. I was seen by a neurologist who said it didn't sound like seizure activity but ordered an EEG. Shortly after he left I had another and he witnessed it and said that it was a psychogenic seizure and I'd be fine. Along with the episodes I seem to have short term memory loss I repeat my self a million times and don't remember when I tell people things. I can't seem to control them and was sent to the er from work as it happened again. I have an appointment with a psychiatrist to see if he can help. I don't know much about them or whats causing them, but if anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Well.....I hate to say this because i'm no doctor, but your episodes sound very similiar to mine.  I have partial seizures and partial-complex seizures, both of which I developed only 6 months ago.  I'm 20, and I had grand mal seizures around the time I hit puberty, but they were well regulated with medication very shortly after I developed them. So, I was very shocked when I developed these "episodes" 6 months ago and have had a pretty hard time controlling them.  Just recently I started taking Lamictal and it seems to work pretty well.

But, your episodes definetely sound like my partial-complex seizures.  I can always hear what's going on around me, but it doesn't make a lot of sense, I just feel out of it and confused for a while, and like you I can't respond.  I'm very suprised to hear that your neurologist dismissed your episodes so fast.  Even if you aren't having seizures, there is obviously something going on in your brain, and your doctor should have better advice than "you'll be fine."  Since you've been taken from work to the ER multiple times, obviously you aren't fine.  I would really suggest getting a second opinion, there are good neurologists out there, you just have to find the right one.

I really hope this all works out for you, just don't give up and you'll find an answer.
