I am currently taking lamictal. 275mg twice a day. At first it seemed like it worked but then I started having, my neuro says is break through seizures.  I had alot of muscle spasms and now I blink all the time, alot more than I normally would.  My neuro said the reason it worked so well in the beginning was because I was taking a little bit of depakote also. Once I started taking lamictal was when I started having break through seizures. She said that is because depakote covers a broader spectrum than lamictal. While, it does keep me from having gran mal seizures it does not really cover anything else.  I was thinking about adding Keppra also.  How long does it usually take to add that?

Im not a medical professional so I dont really know much about mixing drugs. Different AED's have different effective times but I dont know how mixing them affects this. The best person to ask is a doctor or a pharmacist.

Everyone has a guardian angel. They help pick you up when you fall, comfort you through your times of need and help you appreciate the times when things are going well.

Definitely ask a doctor first.

I am not a medical professional either, but I just got put on Keppra while still being on Lamictal. I am currently taking 500 mg Keppra twice a day and 400 mg morning and 300 mg night lamictal.

As for adding it? In my particular case, I took home some "sample packs" from the doctor's office and took those for about 2-3 weeks? (ramping a little bit) to check for side effects. Then about another month passed before I was on the current Keppra schedule I am on now.

So in my case, the time from the first Keppra pill I took to the current dosage was probably just around 2 months somewhere. Of course all the numbers are different for every person.
