Hi everyone!

I'm 24 years old, and I've been Epileptic for nine years (my anniversary was this past month). From when I was first diagnosed, I've had a total of three grand mal seizures, and the most recent one was 1/29/2008. I was first taking Carbatrol, and now I'm taking Topamax (since 7/2008).

The reason why I'm posting, is earlier this past month my neurologist wanted me to have a three-day EEG study. The reason for this is because since this past summer I've been experiencing a weird visual effect which will happen in ambient lighting or at night time. It's not really an aura, but if I move my hand slowly in front of my face, it looks like there's an imprint of my hand where it was before it moved. It's been happening more and more, so my neurologist thought it had to do with the Epilepsy.

Well, I just received the results of the EEG, and it says that it was "abnormal due to the presence of epileptiform discharges originating from the anterior temporal regions bilaterally and independent, more so on the left. This would be consistent with a partial seizure disorder of temporal lobe origin".

Now, when I went to visit my neurologist, he didn't go into much detail as to what this really means because he was too busy rushing me out of the office, so I'm wondering does anyone know if this means that I do have partial seizures along with grand mal seizures? Is it possible to have both partial seizures and grand mal, or one or the other? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this! :-)

I guess no one had experiences with this, or no one has any knowledge about this whatsoever.

 Hello,

I started with simple partial seizures for many years and then graduated to complex partial seizures and I also have an occasional Grand Mal about one a month but usually not more than 5 so it is possible to have more than one type of seizure.

Good Luck

I have had Epileptic (they think all my life) but the seizure did not hit me till untill I was 45. I have complex partial seizures but lately have been feeling tingling in my legs and arms so the doctor is thinking that my Epileptic is changing a EEG has been ordered. My wife is a reseach nurse, She tell me that it is not unsual for Epileptic to change to become more complex. Yes they can happen together... I just joined looking froward learning more about this site
