eyes  I've noticed that over the past few years, as a result of the meds that I take, I have been experiencing mood swings-so bad that they're affecting my family. One minute I'm happy and joking around (I used to be the life of a party) and the next I'm mad at everyone. My wife is afraid that I'll ruin Christmas. (in front of the relatives) Does anyone know of any med that I could take to combat this that won't interfere with my current meds (dilantin, pheonobarb & Masasol) besides smoking pot? (that always reverses the side effects) nono

BTW Has anybody reading this post been certified by the Government to possess medical marijuana?? I don't know about the laws around this subject in the states but in Canada they are pretty leniant.

Randy, I would ask the doctor if there is something that you can take to help this! Must be frustrating for all of you. My son has had issues with this, at times. Some seizure meds made it harder for him like Dilantin and Depakote. Some of his issues are the location of his seizures, too....

Hoping you will have a good holiday!

I am a little affraid because it is a new place I am goining to call and complain. I have only been on it a week. I went 2 different days with no seizures so something is working.Maybe it will mellow me out after a while. How is your son doing Scott wants to know? He also would like to know how you are? We both hope your Holidays went smothly and you had some peace and stress free fun.Let Scott and me know. SCott and Mary

Hi everyone...

I am a newcomer so bare with me !! I have come on the site before.. to check it out, and learn alot from others experiences.... I just wanted to add to this post because I  am having the same problems !!

I also agree yes, you need to tell your doc... Sometimes all the docs want to do is say wait it out... I dont think they really know how scary it is feeling like a psycho !!!

I am the same way one minute laughing, the next ready to hurt someone, one minute I will be dancing the next crying, I am on low doseage meds compared to alot of others with seizure disorder....

I know I have heard Keppra is a a bad med for mood swings I am on that now.... Zonegran I know I lost 40 lbs in about a year and a half....but I never heard the mood problems thing before with Zonegran....HMM that was interesting....

Well my point was just to say ... be careful and you are not alone !! eyes ...I am with ya !!! We will make it through this... I want to get off the Keppra bad... but it seems to be controlling my seizures the best in a couple of years !!  So what is a person to do ....

And if anyone out there is looking to lose weight.... Well Zonegran .... is the one !! It is so not healthy losing weight like that though....  I had to go for so many tests because of that quick weight loss.... the docs blamed it on my stomach and not my meds.... I went for a colonoscopy and everything.... when all the while I knew it was the meds !!!!! They go in one end and come out the other !!!  Not good nono

Thanks for listening everyone.... I have a feeling I will be hanging around here, now that the holidays are past I have time to think !!!  And I have sooo many questions !!!!

I love to help with anything I can help with also  ...

Happy New Year !!
Dor :-)

Diagnosed with Seizure disorder in 1989...After much reasearch found the reason was because of an angioma in left temp lobe.. I am looking into surgery at this time...I have been very lucky over the years.. I have had 3 healthy children while on low doses of meds...Seek to get off meds...
currently on .... this month anyway ..
Zonegran 200mg

WElcome to the clan. I too am on Keppra 1000 MG daily and in the beginning I had awful mood swings. I have had mood swing my whole life.. I have heard this can be attributed to Epilepsy. But it hurts to have these feelings. YOu are right most Dr.s do NOT know what it is like to feel the effects of these meds.

Mary I am glad to hear you are doing well with your new med combo. Please make sure to keep us up to date good or bad.

Take Care

Jen I hope you are doing well. MIss hearing from you and I hope the holidays with Patrick went smoothly.

You guys are the experts on the meds! Wish the doctors would learn to listen to what you say!!

Hi and welcome, Minnie! Thanks for sharing your story! I hope you can get the mood swings to stop, good that the Keppra is controlling the seizures!!

Have any of you adults tried the B6 for mood swings with Keppra? I know parents who find it helps kids, but have not seen if it helps adults. Hope something will!

Randy, how did Christmas go?

Hi again,

After cosulting with my Neurologist, I suggested to him the possipility of taking "Celexa" to help with the mood swings, since my wife and son are on it and it has possative effects for them.

He said that although it does have a "reaction" to my current meds (dilantin and pheonobarb) he feels safe in letting me try it on a trial basis to see how it "reacts".
