Hi,
Don't know if this does much on here. Been sometime while I have been living with Epilepsy. 40 years. No family members ever ask. I don't ever feel like they care. Have been dealing with emotional abuse my whole life. Being put down, yelled at, etc.

Hearts been racing lately. Feel like I want to disown family and tell them to stay away from me. When they are not around, my life is a little better (less stress). Just don't have anyone else to turn to, been a loner my whole life.

Anyway

Hi, welcome to HealingWell.

If you have specific Epilepsy related questions, this is the place to be. In addition, you may want to try the anxiety forum.

I had Temporal Lobe Epilepsy undiagnosed for over 15 years. Upon correct diagnosis and medication, most of the symptoms went away almost over night. What type of seizures do you experience? Unfortunately our problems are all in our heads, literally, so many people cannot relate.

I was in pharmacy technician school when my seizures started to worsen. My throat would become anesthetized, my ear would throb, I'd get Deja Vu real bad, and my memory would temporarily be unavailable for names. I had an episode in class, I pushed my chair back, banging the wall. The instructor asked if I was alright. I screamed "no I'm not alright". I finally went to another neurologist and he quickly made a diagnosis after testing.

Great problem with epilepsy is that it is difficult for others to understand and difficult for the sufferer to explain how they are actually feeling, the dreadful feelings they are actually experiencing. I doubt even the medical profession understand the disease, they are still experimenting with the medication, the sufferer should not have side-effects from the medication which are so bad, make a person very ill, just reduce the number and severity of seizures perhaps.

Hello,

I have been diagnosed with epilepsy since I was 1 so I know how you feel anyway the heart racing is a sign of anxiety stress also kicks up anxiety and stress is also bad for people with epilepsy because they will have more seizures. Have you ever asked your family if they don't care? If not how do you know they don't care and I'm sorry for the abuse for you should just move out and live your life stress free.

Hi,
Mom of an adult daughter with epilepsy here. My daughter seemed to have more seizures when she is stressed. After an ER visit she was given Valium, something I wasn't thrilled with. She has enough meds as it is, which just adds to the stress of her having to work longer hours to pay for them. Still, she needed something to relieve the stress. I sent her to a naturopath to get a natural alternative. Since then she has been able to reduce some of the other meds, with doctor guidance of course.
I carry and Epi-Pen for multiple food allergies.

I can relate to your family issues. My sister said I couldn't be epileptic because she read it online. She is epileptic but a different type. I sent her info from University Hospital showing I'm epileptic. I never got an I'm sorry or any reply. The good news is your not alone. Some families are dysfunctional. Keep your head high and know your not alone. THANK YOU for showing me there is hope. :-)

survivor13,
Your sister believed that there was a one per family limit?

My daughter is epileptic and my son had seizures. Granted, he is not epileptic, but I had two children with similar causes, different results.
I carry and Epi-Pen for multiple food allergies.
