I am new here.

I have seen several articles about catamenial epilepsy.  I have noticed that my seizures almost always occur right before or just after my period.  I was seizure controlled for 18 years and started having seizures again when I was 41.  Does anyone have any additional information about this?
Thanks...

Mandi,
Thanks for the reply...currently I am on Lamictal but haven't started any hormone therapy yet.  I've done some reading and plan on having a serious talk about this with my neuro at my next appt.

Are there any specific questions I need to ask the DR's?   I think I am going to have to push the Dr to consider hormone therapy. He's a great doc (one of the best) but his opinion is that if you have a high enough drug level then the hormone levels don't matter. That may be true but side effects from a high lamictal level are pretty nasty.

Thanks again for the feedback.  I was starting to think this was all in my head (ha, ha).

Thanks to everyone for all the great information! It is very informative and will give me lots to discuss the doctor in a couple of weeks...

Hey Wingbabe,

I also have CE. I have been on progesterone pills for 6 months now. I take them every month as scheduled. This has worked for me. I have now been seizure free. When you contact your gyn ask him or her about this. My gyn has been great. There are also alternatives to the hormones. There is a peanut diet out there. Peanuts have the natural progesterone needed.

Good luck,

Nikki
