My son had a seizure last night and slept for a long time after.  He woke with a head ache.  After about a hour he was bouncing off the walls.  He is major hyper and has been for hours.  Is this normal?

Hiya,

I would say this is normal. (I hope so seeing as it happens to me sometimes). Sleeping off the effects of a seizure sometimes leaves me feeling like iv'e eaten a tube of blue smarties! (Especially if I have been given a med such as Diazepam). Seizures affect different people in different ways so it may not be normal for everyone, but it is certainly not abnormal.

Hope this answers your question

My daughter was diagnosed with refractory idiopathic epilepsy at the age of 3.  She is now 7 years old.  She has been on 5mg of Diastat since the age of 3 for her gran mal seizures.  She is always "very" hyper when Diastat is administered.  She can't seem to sit still or listen for that matter. This is common for her.  As told by her neurologist, Diastat which is Valium can actually have the opposite effect on children.  I hope I was able to give you some help.
