Well, first I'd like to give you a little info. I started seeing a new neurologist a couple of months ago to help with some of my problems from my surgery(s). (Removel of a meningiomas brain tumor, and a blood clot 24 hours later. And a cranioplasty in Jan.)

I had an EEG done and was given Keppra 2000mg's a day. After about a week I really began to feel improvements. Life still wasn't easy, but I was feeling better. I started to develope an itchey rash on my stomach, underarms and back this past weekend. I was scheduled for a checkup visit this past monday, so I didn't worry to much about it too much. Well monday I went to the dr., and he asked if I could stand the rash to keep taking the Keppra. Well, I agreed to try. He also started me on Provigil to help me with fatigue and concentration. I was also urged to start on Lexapro to help with my mental state.LOL
Fast forward to wednesday, and my trouble really starts... I feel like I've steped back in time to days after my surgeryVIEW IMAGE. My head is hurting terribly, I'm zoning out on and off all day, and can'tsleep at night because I'm dizzy when I close my eyes. I feel like I'm having seizures all over again. Well, this morning my wife called the dr. and told them the rash wasn't gone and was getting worse. She also told them about my problems. Well, my N wasn't working today so the other dr.(which I have never seen) insists that Keppra isn't causing my problems.VIEW IMAGE and gives me a steroid and recommends me seeing a dermatologist. And gives me nothing for my real problems. I reacted the same was from dylantin after I took it for about a month, the rash looks the same and is in the same location. I'm frustrated, something is wrong....I don't feel right, and I don't think a dermatologist is the answer ! I don't know whether to find another dr. or just wait until my dr. can see me.

Oh, Brad, I was wondering and worrying about you. You had just been on my mind.  While it sounds like the steroid might help with the rash, I just can't imagine that you don't have something neurological going on right now, from what you are saying.  Is that what your wife thinks?  Yes, a dermatologist might help your rash, but that's not your biggest problem, is it?  It sounds like this doctor on call didn't want to be bothered on a holiday weekend.  The new neurologist that you have recently started seeing, are you comfortable enough with him to wait until he gets back in the office to see him, that is unless something worse happens?  You are so fortunate to have your wife there for you.

This is a tough thing to be going through during a long holiday weekend, but on the upside I'm guessing (hoping)your wife will be off work and be home with you.  I will be around all weekend and will try to remember to check this forum.  I hope you get some rest tonight.

Carla

Hi Brad,

Its nice to hear from you again although I had hoped you would have better news. It sounds like you need to see your own doctor again as he knows more about your case. The rash you talk about does sound like an allergic reaction. Thats not to say that it is or isnt a reaction to a drug, although IMO it sounds like a reaction to the Keppra. How long do you have to wait to see your doctor? The steroids may help you in the short-term but you should get the cause sorted out sooner rather than later.

Hey Darren,

I just noticed your edit, good idea.  I guess I went into "mom mode" and wasn't thinking.  I guess I wasn't really thinking when I did my profile either.  Do you think that maybe I should use a yahoo email address or something like that for forums?  This is fairly new to me and I would appreciate your advice.

Carla

Hi Carla,

I use a healingwell-email account. There is an email link at the top of this page (in the Beige/Yellow bar). You can follow the links there to get a free address. This is just my preference because it means my personal & university stuff stays seperate and I can check while im in the forum really easily. Also, it means I dont get any junk! lol. This is my advice but using a pre-existing account is always a possibility as well. Just remember, the more things that are attached to it, the more chance there is of going to it and having to spend 30 minutes +  trauling thorugh it all! opening my email and seeing 50 emails is an instant demotivator! lol

I hope this helps
