i am due to go in for a prolonged eeg on monday after having a number of seizers.
i have had a short eeg done before infact i have had 2, one which was normal and one abnormal but still not had a diagnosis, at the minute i cannot drive or work because of health and safety issues, which as u can imagine isnt very good, i am only 21 years old and at the minute dont really have much of a life because it is being coontrolled by this seizure disorder.

what will happen during the eeg test is it the same as the short one?
what will happen if i have - or dnt have a seizure?
is there anyfing that i will need to take into hospital wiv me?

I had to have one where I had to be fairly asleep because I was having most of my seazures during the nite. Every doc orders something different so I cannot say I will know what will happen and what the results will be. They should be able to get a different diagnosis but who knows. Take care and don't worry too much about it. Peace. Kota

Do you know how many days you are going in for? I did the four day one. I can tell you this, there is nothing painful about it.  They will attach a lot more wires to your head than they do with the out-patient EEG's and they may put some on your chest or upper arms or your neck.  I will say, in my opinion, this is the best test you can have done as far as epilepsy.

I don't know if you are male or female, but wear pj's that button up the front as you will not be able to pull anything over your head after they get you wired.  They will video and monitor you 24-7, so you are on TV, you're a star!  You will not be able to take a shower as long as you are wired.  You will have to drag your wires into the bathroom with you, other than that, they can see everything you do.  But, it is really worthwhile for you to have this test done.  I highly recommend it.

I would takes some books or better yet a DVD player because it does get rather boring and this will be your worst hair day ever, much more glue than on the out-patient EEG's.  I didn't want anyone to see me.

The only  real problem I had was almost every time I got up out of bed, I pulled some of my wires loose, which made the little monitor go beep, beep, beep and the nurses would run in.  For a southern lady, I do have a few bad words up my sleeve and they would just come rolling out.  At first I would forget that they could see me and hear me and then I just didn't care.

Really, it's not bad at all.  You're probably not a klutz like me and you trip over the wires.  Keep us posted and welcome to HealingWell.

Hi there,

I think Carla has pretty much covered all the bases here! lol The prolonged EEG's come highly recommended from me as well as they gather much more information regarding whatever disorder it is that you have (In this case, probably Epilepsy). Being bored is usually an issue so make sure you take plenty of entertainment with you and as Carla said... your on TV 24-7, so make the most of your 4 days of fame!

Take care and dont worry. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask... there is no such thing as a stupid question if you dont know the answer!

thanks for all your answers,
just to let u all no i am not going to be a star hehe, its not a video eeg i am having just a normal one but for 4 or 5 days.

sometimes i can go upto 2 weeks without having a seizure sometimes i have them daily
what will happen if i dont have a seizure while i am being monitored?
when having an outpatient eeg the neuro dr said my eeg was abnormal, but then i had another one and it was normal.

i have been passed from dr to dr so there has been no consistency with care so far i think that is why i havent yet been given a diagnosis,
