I posted once and got a couple responses but here I am today....hurting all over. I notice if I sit, the pain in my shoulders especially gets worse. But today my feet feel better but my arms up and down and my upper shoulders in the back are hurting the most. Its like my body "cramps" "aches" all over and at various times I get a sharp shooting like pain either in a finger, a knee, my foot, an elbow. When I bend my neck or move sometimes I pop al over. My forearms even hurt/ache. Just like I said before that I feel like I have been hit with a baseball bat.

Thank you

Hi, Angeliz!  Sounds like my pain.  Shoulders and neck usually bother people with fibro.  Sometimes my hips and feet will hurt.  Other times my knees will hurt.  My fingers are tender and pop when I open and close my hand.

I just came from having a light massage.  That helps me a lot.  Anyway, while she was massaging my back, I could feel the aching feeling in my hips!  So, I know for sure that the back muscles can cause pain in the hips!  This is the worst time of the year for me so my hips, shoulders, neck, rib cage hurt the most.  When she massaged my arms, I couldn't believe the knots she was finding.  I told her that I was surprised because my arms didn't hurt.  She said they probably did but I had worse pain elsewhere.  LOL

My suggestion to you is to keep moving.  If you've read on this forum,  you know that is my mantra.  Move and do stretching exercises.  God only knows the condition I would be in if I wasn't diligent about that.  That has helped me a lot.

Do Fibro people get these "sharp shooting" like pains in their joints or what ever? Thats the best way I can describe it. Do most Fibro people have to take antidepressants? From what I understand, yes. I am on wellbutrin 150mg 1x day and have been since 2001 but most of my Drs. (Cardiologist, GP, Pshychologist, Nuero suggest I change to a new med because it appears the wellburtin isnt doing as it should and if I go up, it makes my anxiety worse. All are suggesting Lexapro OR Cymbalta...?????

Hi Angeliz,
I have tried Cymbalta without success however many people do benefit a great deal from it. It somehow also helps with the pain issue. My hubby and my loving sister both noticed an altered personality come through when I tried to take it so after both of them telling me I was acting "looney" and not at all like myself I told my doctor and we decided to stop it. I am on Elavil right now to help with depression however I am also taking some very potent pain medications daily to deal with my pain issues. For now things seem to be working for me so I am hanging tight and hoping it continues without having to do anymore changing of meds.
Best of heath and hope you find a course of treatment right for you soon!

Geez....lol I didn't even answer your question.... "Describe your pain"? Most days I feel like I have a fever high enough to make my muscles ache all over... and YES.. the sharp stabbing for no good reason pain happens when I least expect it.. like laying in bed and all of a sudden my back will just kill me with shooting pain in the flank areas... My joints, knees, hips and wrists mostly are always painful when walking sitting. The worst for me is not even being able to write a check without dropping the ink pen before I finish because of pain in the right thumb and it travels up through my wrist and forearm. It just seems to never end. I just keep telling myself that.."I awoke today, it's a good day"

Hi Angeliz,

The worst of my pain is in my hips, lower back and left shoulder.  I have many other spots such as my arms, back of my head, knees, ankles, elbows, chest, etc.  I can't even remember some of them until they hurt.

Take care!

I still think, for me, the best description is like you've been beat up with a baseball bat. Plus I get a burning pain near my shoulder blades. Feels like the muscles are on fire. The neck/shoulder area is most often the worst plus my caboose and thighs. I do have a pinched nerve that sends shooting pains down the backs of the legs but that's not fibro.

Some days when it's at it's worst it's more of a feeling like I was run over by a truck! The pain the past 2 weeks has been like that. If you are feeling joint pain it's likely the tendons which make it 'feel' like the joints are involved. My hands are just awful...especially writing by hand. Even typing is getting harder and harder. Plus using the mouse is bad, even with a wrist pad. Aching and throbbing all the way up my arm.

Hope this helps!

Hello Angeliz, Just read your post and wanted to let you know you are not alone.  I have the pain like everyone has described but I take 50 mg. of Lyrica before bedtime and it seems to be helping me.  It doesn't work for everyone though.  I don't think my pain is as bad as a lot of others on this forum but my other symptoms sometimes outweigh the pain.  Like tonight I can't sleep again and tomorrow I start back to work at school and I will come home and absolutely collapse.  My energy level is so low that I will have a hard time with all the walking I have to do tomorrow.  Worrying about it tonight is probably why I can't sleep.

Keep posting so we know what's going on with you.  This is a caring, sharing bunch of people.  When you have a question feel free to ask.  Hope your pain gets better.

God Bless!

My worst pain is primarily in my lower back and hips, upper left back [just beneath shoulder blade, feels like I am burning on the inside], right knee, and muscle spasms down right thigh. I do get the sharp pain in a variety of places, it moves around. last week it was my right heel and I could hardly keep from hollering and jumping around. Each time it his I heard myself say, "YAH!". I also have intense and unpredictable muscle cramps or jumps, eyelids, calf, forearm, etc. These come without pain but are a pain! :) I also have recurring lychen planus on my tongue and it is horridly painful. Sometimes I can only eat yogurt for days at a time. It hits only during stressful times, which I am learning to deal with better. I am doing well on cymbalta, was off of it for a couple of months and could really tell the difference. I do need some type of additional pain killer, can't find anyone to prescribe it, am thinking about seeking them out from Canada.

It is like someone has one of those sewing things with the spiky wheel (think it is called a marking wheel?) and they are pushing hard and rolling it up and down the bones of my hips and thighs. There - how's that for descriptive.

HI Angeliz,

Well tonight like most of this past week my pain is joint pain.  Specialy my feet and anckles and the last few months my wrists and fingers.  It actually feels like I have jammed the joints into something and they feel bruised to touch them.

Chutz........I get that burning inbetween the shoulder blades as well.  Its usually when I have been on my feet all day and I am working leaned over the kitchen counter, hurts so bad and so deep!

I got alot of cramping aching pain in my large muscles of my legs like the thighs and calfs and the glutes too, talk bout a pain in the ass,for real.  I wake up sometimes with the trapiziod muscle? the muscle that runs up both sides of my neck in back of my head that gets rock hard and gives me a horrible headache too.

But one of the worst pains I get is after being completely constipated and going through a rather traumatizing extraction it feels like I have been disemboweled and my low back hurts so bad I have seriously wanted to just die.

Then there is the endomitriosis pain and that in yur belly and back cause severe bloating and diarhea.

And last my not least the hip pain from the torn hip socket that has gimping and dragging my leg but havnet been able to get that fixed cause the down time is too long.  Oh and I almostforgot the costa pain from the ligaments being pulled so tight it feels like you are having a heart attack, so some of it fibro and some just from me but its all mine in the end.

Hi Angeliz, as you can see fibro pain comes in many forms. I have a muscle on the back of my neck when pushed sends sharp pain up in my head. There is also referred pain, when you push one place it can cause sharp pain in another part of your body. Physical therapist pushed down on the top of my head and it caused a sharp pain in left hip, how weird is that.

Use moist heat of any kind showers, baths, moist heating pad, rice bags you heat in the microwave or hot tub. Hope it all gets better soon.

luv and hugs

My pain is more specific most days, but here lately I just feel like I hurt head to toe, that all of me is just hard to move without pain.

Lots of feet and ankle pain. Burning in legs, back of legs. Upper back between shoulder blades. Upper arms, fingers and wrists.

Lots and lots of fatigue....my battery need recharged badly. Doesn't it seem like we could handle the pain maybe better if we had some energy?? But the pain just wears me down so much.

Karen, I don't hear much about finger pain so I was glad to read your post.  Mine feel like that all the time, especially my thumb and I can't find my thumb brace right now so it's even worse.  it feels so whimpy to complain of finger pain but honestly, sometimes it's the worse pain of all.  Really gets on my nerves.  Speaking of nerve pain, my ear hurts so bad, I think because of a nerve that runs through there or near there and then into the back of my head.  My pain killer, Ultram, will stop the ear thing and some other things but won't touch the finger and thumb thing.

I've had hand and finger pain.  It has left me, for the time being.  A couple of years ago, I couldn't open jars, pop tops, etc.  It's terrible when they hurt.  But, now I only have popping and some discomfort in my fingers.  I can open cars again!  The worst of the pain is gone.  Where???  I haven't a clue!  I find that if I wait long enough, things go away but the pain crops up someplace else.  That's why I don't run to the doctor anymore with the pain complaints.

You mentioned something that sounded like what I called twitches in eyelids and in other areas.  I had an episode of these once.  They were painless but annoying. It felt like popcorn popping and were actually visible.   In the medical field they are referred to as fasiculations.  Mine were caused by severe stress and were a physical manifestation of that.  Once my stress overload stopped, so did the fasiculations.  The cause should be diagnosed by a physician however  as there can be other causes.

Definately not alone, I can't sit very long at the computer any more.  I get stiff and my god the pain in my neck, literally, and shoulders are to much.  My legs will get stiff if I sit to long.  That's why I constantly move around.  I'm not much of a sitter these days.  The constant pain for me is my forearms, shoulders, and neck.  My legs feel like dead weight some days and my feet will bother me.  It doesn't help that I have a bunion.  I'm constantly asking hubby for a shoulder rub.  If i could get a massage every day I would love that, but to darn expensive for that.  Plus I had one before and I actually hurt worse after the massage than when I went to have it done.  My pain was one of many reasons I quit my job in February.  It required a lot of time in front of the computer and by the end of the day I was in agony.  It also required lifting heavy boxes a lot of the time and I just couldn't manage it any more.  I can do the job in small spurts but that wasn't going to work.  It was a very high stress job which we all know can aggrivate the pain a great deal top that with a boardline migrane at the end of the day and it was all I could do to make it home.

I don't miss that job one bit, I still have days where I have to tell myself left foot, right foot, left foot just to keep moving.  Somehow I get things accomplished.  The only thing I'm taking right now is advil for the pain.  Lyrica and Lexapro just didn't help at all.  I have tried muscle relaxor from time to time and that does alright.  You are so right about having days you feel like you were beat up or run over.  You just simply feel louzy.  To me it can feel like a really bad case of the flu when you hurt all over.  Take your time, do things in moderation, and don't rush yourself.  Rest when you can, soak in a hot bath, that's how I live my days.  Best of luck to all-

Fibromyalgia, the mystery migrating pain syndrome, here today, gone tomorrow, only to return somewhere else on your body another day.  Why haven't they found the cause.  For a fibromyalgia sufferer a good day is a pain score of 3 on a pain scale of 1-10.  Do we ever have a day without pain, I don't.   I take antidepressants because I do have life-long depression but I wonder if it helps...but it might be worse if I did not take it.  My condition has also been diagnosed as a neuroreceptor problem.  My brain is getting pain signals but there is no physiological cause for the pain.  The only medical person who has helped me was a pain specialist.  I don't think GPs or family doctors really understand.  You wonder if they think you have drug-seeking behavior.  I even had one once tell me to exercise.  I won't say what I felt like telling him.

My pain varies day by day, however my worse spots are calves, ankles, upper back and neck. I have had a lot of luck with Savella, I have been on it for 2 weeks now and I was able to not only work 2 consecutive days, but have also cut my pain meds in half.
