I have begun the Malic Acid/Magnesium routine, on day two. Can't tell anything new just yet, but I believe I will. I have also begun ginseng and take that during the day. Doing better about taking my multi-B with meals. No more taking that on an empty stomach with a V-8 chaser! LOL [yikes- thank you pals for straightening me out about that one!] I'm eating smaller and more frequent meals through out the day, I eat what my body asks for- in a healthy way! For example tonight was a fruit salad with yogurt. Yum! My husband is home and as supportive as always. I have finally kicked the nightly cocktail routine and feel much better for that, too. I've lost about 6 lbs and feel motivated to continue on this healthy path. I am going to visit an accupuncturist in the next couple of weeks. Would like to know if anyone haw experiences or thoughts on this matter. Any info will be much appreciated. As always, thanks to my new friends and compatriots for keeping me going when I need the help. I thank God I found this forum and all of my new friends. Any thoughts on accupuncture?
Peace!

Hey you go girl! yeah yeah yeah
Sounds like you are really being good to yourself. The weight loss is wonderful and that alone will make you feel better. The way you are doing it will last. It takes a life style change to keep the pounds off. I've never had accupuncture...to much of a chicken around needles sad
When I was school age the whole country was going through polio vacinations. And being from a rural area I received mine from a country doctor who only had one room for operation, examination and vacination. He was detained and left a very frightened little girl sitting on his operating table. I remember glass cases full of surgical instruments surrounding the cold metal table. My mind could not cope with all the possibilities. The room began to spin and I passed out. I was staying with my aunt at the time and I guess I really gave them all a scare.
Best of wishes for your new healthy way of life...and many pain free days.    Chuzzle

I'm glad your eating better Sera. I haven't had accupuncture but would be interested in how you do with it. I'm open to anything that will work for fibro.

Sera,

This forum is a blessing isn't it?  I was on two others before I found this one and they were very slow and one was so annoying because there was this guy on there who was having success with the Gupta program and anytime anyone posted anything at all, he would always reply with "Get off all that medication crap and get with the Gupta program.  It's miraculous, blah, blah, blah" and on and on about this program and when I looked it up, it's a dvd you can purchase for $200 but I still have no idea what the program is and if it was so great, why this guy wouldn't just tell us what to do.  Right before I left that forum, I asked him if he sold the program or got some kickback for referrals.  He didn't answer.  Anyway it was annoying and I almost gave up thinking that people with fibro/cfs must just be too exhausted to participate in forums.  Sooo happy to find this one.  Speaking of programs, I have been trying to follow some of Dr. Lapp's Stepwise program http://www.drlapp.net/resources.htm#Stepwise%20Approach I have an appt. with Dr. Lapp in October but I'm probably going to cancel it if I get accepted into the Duke research study on Thursday.  So what was the question?  Oh, accupuncture.  I haven't tried that yet but I'm going to.  I have heard others have had good results.  I have had a great experience with my chiropractor but just this particular one--I went through four others before I found him.  I also started on magnesium but haven't found the malic acid yet.  I'm hoping to have the strength to pop in the GNC store today.  Boy, I want a nap, but alas I must shower for work. :-) :-) :-) :-)

Hi, Sera!  I tried accupuncture.  I did it three times a week for six months.  It cost me $600 a month!  It didn't do anything for my fibro, but I did gain some of my hearing back!  That was something!

I have read that some people have success with accupuncture, though.  I just didn't.  It's just like everything with fibro.  You have to try things for yourself to see what works for you.  I'll really pray this will help you.

I'm really happy that you are starting to take good care of yourself.  Without good nutrition, you will only feel worse.  I think you found that out already.  I'm really proud of you and of your weight loss, to boot!  That is wonderful!

Chuzzle, chicken?????   Did you say "chicken"?????  tongue

Holly, did you read the malic acid/magnesium thread?  I put a lot of useful information in it along with links about the scientific studies and also a link to where I buy my malic acid/magnesium supplements.  I found that you can find that better on line and there are other places  you can get it.  The supplement I take is a combination of the two and it is in the malate form so it is easily absorbed, I understand.  I need that since I have Crohn's disease.  I did try to find malic acid in the stores.  I found some at GNC, but it had a lot of other stuff in it and I didn't want that.  So, if you really can't find it, try the web site.

yeah sera!!!! I hope you get some great relief!

I started really eating healthier and have lost more then 40 lbs so far. I know this healthy eating, plus the weight lose has really helped with my fibro symptoms. I also started the malic acid/mag abot 6-8 weeks now (I can't remember lol) and I definately think I am getting some relief from it too. I still have fibromayglia problems of course, but I feel like the pain isn't as intense as it used to be, and I also feel like I have some extra energy that I didn't have before taking the malic acid/mag.

good luck sera! hope you all have great days today~ :-)

Well, Folks, more about malic acid. I'm in the middle of busy wedding cake season and when I can, I get away for a week to the lake, but I've been beyond busy this summer. Long story short... ran out of malic acid again and really haven't taken the time to get an order together until this morning. (I get it from Puritan.com). Looking at your posts, it made me think.

My pain hasn't been all that bad lately but I have been unable to rouse myself from much more than a stupor. Feels sometimes like I'm going thru the motions all day long, just waiting to get to bed... and when I get there I can't fall asleep! When I do finally sleep I could sleep around the clock... Barely dragging myself out in the morning. And I know that this is how I used to be, years ago before starting my malic acid... JUST BEEN TOO FOGGY BRAINED TO MAKE THE CONNECTION! DUH!!!

Anyway.. site related posts about acupuncture:

Chuzzle, the word "chicken" gets me excited, no matter how it is used in a sentence.  I'm still dreaming of Chutzie's chicken farm.  I like mine crispy!  devil

Hi Sera,
I did try acupuncture and it was combined with another technique, can't think of the name right now. This method he used was: He placed a heating pad for 20 minutes on my back, then took it off, and did the acupuncture for 30 mins, then removed the needles, which by the way, did NOT hurt. But, this other technique he did, that REALLY hurt. He was working on tender points, trying to loosen up the muscles. He succeeded. So, I don't know if it was the acupuncture or this other technique, or the combination of the two. I went to him for 8 weeks, two to three times a week at a cost of $70 per session, only to find out my insurance does NOT cover it, so I stopped going. I did find that he was able to "loosen up" the tight muscles, but again, I found it painful, and then afterwards, I was quite tender for at least a day, and then I felt better, only to go back again and start all over again!!  I think I'm a glutton for punishment yeah ... I never did try the acupuncture by itself. I do a lot of reading on fibro and have read a lot of good about it for fibro.  Good Luck to you, Sera!
