Hi everyone

I am new to the board and am looking forward to learning from everyones own experiences.  I have just started taking Topamax for pain for my fibro as nothing else seems to be working.  Has anyone had any experiences with this drug?

Cheers

Hi, Cheermom, and welcome!  I do not take Topamax but I'm sure others do and will be along shortly.  Here is an informative link about it, just in case you are interested.

I use ibuprofen (with food) and Tylenol for my pain.  I also take malic acid and magnesium supplements that have helped me a lot with the pain and fatigue.  I'll bump up the thread all about them so you can read all about them.  I also use moist heat, rice bags, and light massages to help me with pain.  It is also important to keep moving.  Otherwise you will be stiff as a board!  Walking is a wonderful exercise for fibromites.

Be sure to check out the Fibro 101 thread.  It's the second thread at the top of the forum.  There are some good links to information about fibro.  There is a link to great stretching exercises that is very good and they really do help.

I'm so glad you joined us and I hope to hear more from you soon.  Just read back posts.  There is a world of information in them.  Also, ask questions.  We are here to help you live a full and enjoyable life with fibro.  Have a great day!

Hello Cheermom,

I just started taking Topamax aweek ago, i take 50mg for 7 days and last night i started taking 2 Tablets, i take them at bed time and so far so good.

I must say that i have had some pain relief but i do not know if it is from the Topamax or the Methotrexate. I have been in a flare all summer so whatever gives me relief i am all for.

By the way Welcome, I am new to and it sure has helped me to see myself in so many letters on this board, not that we want anyone else to suffer this disease but at the same time it is nice to know we are not off our rocker. (LOL). That these pains are real.

Hi and Welcome Cheermom!

I sure hope you get some relief from the pain. It seems that medications used for fibro either work well or not at all...there's no in between. I've tried most everything out there, new and old. The only thing that helps so far is plain old pain meds, sad to say.

I'm also watching the new drug Remoxy. It's been put on the fast track for FDA approval. It's an opiod pain med but it's tamper proof so the 'druggies' won't be able to cook, shoot or snort it. Hopefully that will make getting pain meds much easier for the people who need them.

Keep us posted on how this med works for you! By sharing we hopefully allow a fellow sufferer to have some pain-free time.
