tongue  Good Morning! tongue   okay, so not such a good morning.. but, I am trying...
I'm just wondering how many of you have tried the holistic, all natural supplement route to controlling your FM symptoms? I have been reading some of the posts and besides the malic acid/magnesium, which I do take and have been for a very long time, I don't see much in the way of supplements being taken by fibromites.
I just began this new chapter in my quest to overcome fibro, about a year ago, when I went to see an M.D. that also practices chinese medicines. She told me that I MUST stop eating cane sugar, coffee, including decaf, and gluten, which for me, was my basic diet...seemed like everything had either gluten or cane sugar in it. Well, I finally managed to do it and have been successful at staying away from it...okay, every once in a while, I do cheat, but boy, do I feel it. I have noticed the burning fibro pain, which I use to get in my shoulders, neck and legs, is WAY improved, not gone, but much better. It has also helped the fibro fog, again, to a degree, not gone, but better.
Since then, I bought a book by Jacob Teitelbaum, MD "From Fatigue to Fantastic" and he goes over a protocol he has used on 1,000's of patients with FM, he runs clinics across the US just for people with FM and CFS and in his book, he lists exactly what to do. I am not a wealthy woman and I was finding some of these supplements to be costly, but then I found, which I found to have so much and their prices are really good.
Well, I'll stop talking about me...I really would like to know if anyone out there is taking supplements and which ones are helping? My main goal is to get off some of the medications I am on. No, I don't plan to get rid of my pain pills, at least not for now...they allow me to function yeah

My doctor just started me (2 weeks ago) on Omega-3 professional grade, 5000 mg/day.  In 4-6 weeks I am supposed to have decrease pain in my RA, decrease risk of  pneumonia by 35%, reduce plaque in arteries by 75%, correct irregular heartbeat (not sure about Afib though), relief in muscle pain from fibro..and so on..I will let you know if it works.  My doctor has just recently started being a pain management doc for fibro and ra.

I just started Omega 3 too.  I rarely eat fish and the Omega 3 is so good for you so I thought I'd take that.  I also take the malic acid/magnesium supplements, and folic acid to help with absorption of nutrients.  We usually have IBS so we aren't absorbing things as well.  I take other vitamins but they aren't for fibro.

Sherrine, I do take alot of herbs & such. I have to be careful though. If I take the wrong thing it flares my Crohn's. I can't take Omega's for example. It's just like swallowing acid! The same goes for vit. E. It's touch & go.
