Expected my diagnosis to be arthritis, but instead I'm in a MASSIVE fibro flare.

Hi everyone,

I had a bone scan done last week to try and diagnose widespread horrible joint pain. Turns out my joints are fine, and what I'm experiencing is acute muscle pain that is surrounding each joint!!  I'm in a BRUTAL fibro flare.  The worst I've ever had.  I am in a bit of shock actually.  I thought the diagnosis was going to be rheumatoid arthritis or Ankylosing Spondylitis.  Far from it apparently!!

So my rheumy prescribed Tramadol for the pain. I've taken my first pill and it kicked in in about 20 minutes. I have relief for the first time in almost 8 months.....

I'm also tapering down on my prednisone to help my fibro not be so bad.  I just have to make sure my lupus doesn't flare up.

So I'll be visiting here quite frequently now.  Rheumy said my lupus is very quiet and well controlled.  My biggest issue is the fibro now.

I understand so much better what you all go through every day.  My fibro was very quiet for 7 years.  Hardly had any issues.  I had no idea it could get soooo bad. No idea.  I'm in shock actually.  I'm sending all you lovely people gentle, loving hugs ((((((((((hugs)))))))))))).

Hi Ginny, glad you didn't get the dx of RA, so sorry your are having such a terrible flare right now. Good to hear that the Lupus is quiet at this time, hope it stays that way. Hope the Fibro settles down for you and the med continues to work.  Post whenever you need to. Hope we can help you thru this.

Be gentle w/ yourself, rest as much as you can, hot shower might help, rice bags for specific spots, gentle stretching and visiting here w/ friends. That's my RX for you lol

God bless.  Alice.

I'm glad you got a diagnosis and something that is giving you relief.  I have been trying to tell people that what they are feeling is muscle, tendon, and ligament pain and not joint pain.  I know it really feels like your joints are aching, doesn't it?  I have even gotten swelling, too, but it was fibromyalgia.  The good news is, that fibromyalgia does not do any damage to your joints like arthritis does.  I hope your flare subsides soon.

Yep, feels like my shoulderblades are being pulled apart in different directions sometimes. How much tramadol are you taking??? That stuff is like taking tylenol for me.

I'm glad it is fibro instead of arthritis cause even the osteo can hurt worse than fibro sometimes.

Get better soon.

luv and hugs

Ginny, if you haven't already, be sure to check out the Fibro 101 thread.  It's the second thread on the forum.  There is a lot of good info in it.

Thanks everyone!

Sherrine, yes, it feels just like joint pain.  You can't tell them apart!  I'm thinking my foot problems are fibro now too.  The ligaments and tendons are not happy!

Marlee, I thought it was Tramadol, but I'm actually taking its smaller sibling, Tramacet. It's shorter acting and addictive.  Does the dizziness and dopey feelings go away once my body is used to the drug?  I'm really dopey on just one pill. Makes me sleepy all day.

I really had no idea that Fibro could get this bad.  I now understand so much better what you all go through every day. For the past 7 years I always thought that my Fibro wasn't a big deal.  It IS a VERY big deal.

I hope the flare subsides soon too. I'm on month 8 now though.... It just gets worse every month.  I was able to use my bike today! I put a big old pillow on the seat and was able to cycle for 20 minutes before my butt said, "ENOUGH!"  We set my mountain bike up inside on a special stand.  It's great!  So the pain meds worked well enough for me to do that exercise this morning.  Felt really good.
